Resize C Drive

I have Windows 7 64 bit and it has worked fine for a long time. Recently I installed a new program and I got the message that I could NOT run the program because I was low on memory for C drive.

My Hard Drive is partitioned into three partitions C, D and E.

Is there anyway I can reduce the size of D drive and add that reduction to C drive??

Help is appreciated.

I'm afraid not, I believe that in order to change partition sizes, they must be deleted then reformed. You'd have to backup all the data and then format the hard drive - not a good idea.
Did you get an option to change the installation path when you installed the program? If you did, you could just change it to the partition with more space on it.

Alternatively, you could try changing the program file installation directory so new programs are installed to the partition with more space in it, and then uninstall the program and reinstall it. This would be complicated though as you'd have programs on each partition.

When using any such partition resizing tool, realize the process could take a long long time -- 'cause the tool has to "move" any discovered data "residing on the borders" from current partition over to resized partition. When I used Acronis Disk Director for a resizing -- I discovered time and patience is needed, and, the moved material was placed into a real geeky folder combination.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread before starting a new one. In trying to create a data (D) partition on a newly installed HDD, I found I could only shrink the (C) drive down to 349GB, leaving 332GB Unallocated. 349GB for the system drive seems like a waste of space so I'll give your suggestion a try to free up some more space for the data partition.

Just throwing this out as another option. I use Macrium Reflect Pro and when I clone a drive I have the option to create/resize the target drive's partitions into any size I choose, as long as the data will fit. In this case you'd have to clone to a spare drive, then back again to the original drive.

I tried 'resizing' an existing drive once and it was miserable, took over 16 hours. The clone method took just hours.

It is recommended to disable sleep and hibernation before
Depending on the security that is installed there might be issues if it blocks or disrupts the process though

As AddRAM said, it's doable and that's actually how I did it (relatively safe).

But I also had an external back up of everything I need.

I downloaded pwfree91-x64 & rufus-2.6, followed this and received this popup.

'ISO image seems to use an obsolete version of ‘vestment.c32’.
Boot menus may not display properly because of this

A newer version can be downloaded by Rufus to fix this issue:
- Choose ‘yes’ to connect to the internet & download the file
- Choose ‘no’ to leave the existing ISO file unmodified
If you don’t know what to do, you should select ‘yes’.'
