Restart is sometimes needed but there is no apparent pattern. Sometimes more than once a day but not always. Sometimes shuts down overnight. Sometimes it will wake from sleep in the morning. Sleep is set for 30 minutes and will usually rouse from sleep. Dell All-In-One is almost 11 years old. I'm guessing maybe dust causing overheating or maybe software problem. Software seems unlikely. I afraid to open it up and blow out the dust. I might cause damage doing so and to get a tech to do it is expensive. It was cleaned several years ago during a failed fan replacement while under extended warranty. I thing fan is still OK. Any suggestions?

A little worried about CPU temp that gets up to 180 F when watching TV via Media Center. 140-150 F normally.
I wouldn't use any of those low power modes of sleep or hibernation, they can and will cause issues. Maybe not for everyone, but I've seen my fair share of posts all across the Internet eluding to the fact that low power modes cause issues. It may go against the grain of many people's thinking, but I've been around the block with computers to know...

I just power off and power on my computer. Simple as that. Never using sleep, etc. You may already have irrevocable damage to the hard drive data. To see if that may be a possibility, go to Windows search under the start orb and enter cmd Now right click CMD and run as administrator. In the open command prompt enter the following noting the space: sfc /scannow. If there are integrity violations that Windows can't repair, then perhaps an in place reinstall (repair install) is in order. To do that requires you to have the original Windows disk. Read here on all that.

Hawaii, huh? Never been but wouldn't mind visiting for at least a week or two. Perhaps take up some boogie boarding lessons. :D

I was hoping for a simple solution. Apparently no such thing. Yes, Hawaii - best weather on the planet, it's said.
