Good morning, forum.

I created 2 images of my laptop c: partition with Macrium Reflect Free. The first one with Windows 7 and updates and the second one with OS, updates and drivers.

There is a file I need to recover from the first image. Will Macrium Reflect Free allow me to get this file from the first image? If not will the standard or pro version allow me to recover the file from an image created from the free version?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mark

Very easy - with the free Macrium. All you have to do is to mount the image file (double click on the image file and you'll see). Then the whole image will appear as a virtual drive in Computer. Double click on that and navigate to the file you want to retrieve. Then you can copy/paste it like from any real drive.

If this is not understood, post back and I make you a few pictures of the process.

Well. I tried to do this two different ways. First I booted to desktop, accessed my external drive, navigated to the image file and double-clicked the file. I got the "windows can't open this file" window. Next, I tried booting up with the Macrium recovery cd. I navigated to the image file on the external drive. When I select the image file to browse, the "OK" box is grated out. I cannot make a selection. Do you suppose that I need to install Macrium free on my HDD to do this?

Yes you will need to install Macrium free so that the image can be mounted as described by whs.

Thank you, kado897. After installing Macrium Free on my laptop and waddling thru the options necessary to mount and see my image, I was able to restore my lost file. Thanks, all, for the help. I think this program (Macrium) rocks.
