Restore hangs at user/name

I built a new computer and installed W7 64-bit. I have created an image of my old c drive and am trying to restore it to my new c drive. Using Windows Restore, the process begins, but hangs when it gets to user/my name.

Even more frustrating, when I create a "new" image that is the most up to date version of the old c drive, Restore won't even find it. Using refresh doesn't help.

Welcome to the forum Vaughn, can you give us a few more details on what you have done. What program did you use to make the image, is the old C drive an actual drive or just a partition on your present drive ?

If the drives are 2 physical drives are they both the same make, model ?

Did you make a Recovery disk to use to restore the image ?

Sorry for so many questions but the more information the experts get the easier it will be for them to help you. Have you had a look in the Tutorial section to see if there's anything there that can help you ?

Hang in there and I'm sure someone will come along and give you the help you need.;)

I am using W7 backup.

I will give one of your programs a try.

Hi Joan,

The old and new C drives are the same make (Western Digital), but not the same model. Each drive is only one partition. I did not make a recovery disk. I went to the Control Panel and then chose backup and recovery. I used Windows 7 program to make the image.

I'll happily answer any question to solve this problem. :D
