Results of Uninstalling Windows Updated

I have very carefully uninstalled all of the windows updates that I have found relating to both the installation of Win 10 as well as the recent MS telemetry updates for Win 7. My question is that if I have none of these now appearing under installed updates will my Win 7 computer be completely free of any effect that the uninstalled updates might have had?

I ask this because even after I uninstalled KB3035583 the GWX file remained in the System 32 folder and eventually enabled Win 10 to attempt an install on my computer even though I had set windows update to download, but allow me to approve installation. Fortunately the installation failed, but I remain concerned about the possible lingering effects of the other updates that were once installed and then uninstalled might still have on my computer?

I'm not sure what effects or what to do with the left over gwx folders ?
I guess you've been reviewing this thread and some of the most recent replies with updated lists ?

But yea besides reviewing updates before you download and install them in the future because they will return if you don't

I removed both sets GWX/NT$ wth no ill effects, You have to do it bottom up,
ie GWX files> then GWX folder and overide permissions.

And i now have my WU set to Let me decide, and i check the details B4 i download them

ThrashZone and torchwood- Thank you very much for responding to this thread. In the simplest of terms the answer that I am hoping to find is whether or not all of the changes that an update may have made on the computer since it was installed are completely reversed at the time when the update is uninstalled?

Hi,
I don't know but anytime a large and several updates are installed like this nothing is the same as if they weren't installed unless you used a reliable system image and recovery disk to completely restore the system

These updates were spread out over this year most did not install at the same time many were reissued that updated the first so that can create issues you might not see until later.

ThrashZone- I figured as much. I do have Macrium Reflect images going back into 2013, but I am reluctant to run my Win 7 computer on the internet without 2 years worth of genuine security updates. I have chosen rather to take my windows 7 computer offline and just use it for photo processing.

I had a great run using the windows operating system, but now we are all having to sort through MS updates for those which will compromise our privacy and those which will not and this is just not right. As for myself, after MS recently made a secretive attempt to install Win 10 on my computer without consent from me even though I had set windows update to not install any updates without my approval I reluctantly disconnected the Ethernet cable from the Win 7 computer which appears in my avatar for the first time since I've owned it.

Saying goodbye to such a good friend with which I have had so many great adventures on line with makes this a very sad time for me...

Well there is plenty of good lists to go by and all any one has to do is review before downloading and installing updates them to keep away from updates they don't want.

I did in fact follow several different lists of updates to avoid and even compiled a master list of unwanted updates from MS. As a result I uninstalled every one of the updates on the lists nevertheless MS still tried to install Win 10 on my Win 7 computer without my permission. How are we to continue to trust MS when they are going to such extremes to enroll our computers in this new program of data mining or force a new operating system on us that contains desktop advertising with links to the internet even though we tried our best to avoid it.

Over the years I have made great efforts to avoid malware from entering my computer but there is simply no way that I can defend against the installation of this kind of unwanted software direct from MS. In my opinion this behavior is simply not characteristic of the maker of the operating system that I have truly enjoyed using for all of these years.

I also don't like the fact that I can't trust Windows 7 Updates no more. I have to investigate every one of them before installing.
I have a list of updates that I don't want and the list keep growing bigger.
I also don't have anything (GWX) on my computers.

So far things are okay.
Keep in mind their is always a risk when one does such a thing as I have done.

Thank you for sharing that Layback Bear. I have been benefiting from your postings ever since I became a member here 5 years ago when I began using the Win 7 OS. My Win 7 computer is working as well as it ever did and I am absolutely and completely satisfied with it. The only thing that has changed is that because of the way MS is conducting business with it's updates these days I have since chosen to use it offline and continue to take advantage of it's excellent performance.

Please keep in mind that most of Windows 7 Updates are good and correct. In many cases needed.

Because I no longer can trust M/S like I/us/we use to makes updating a lot more work because of lack of trust and information.

The time will most likely come when I do buy Windows 10 but I will do it on my choosing because of what it offers that I need or want from a operating system.
I also believe that if Windows 10 doesn't sell in a big way heads will roll at Microsoft. That means to me anything will be tried by M/S including making Windows 7 harder to use.
Windows 10 biggest competition is Windows 7. Microsoft is competing against Microsoft for market share.
As far as I know Microsoft still makes the best operating system even with the B/S they are putting their customers through at this time.
