Reverse Win 10 Compact

So I compressed some files using the windows 10 compact.exe command and forgot to uncompact them before downgrading back to windows 7 is there anyway I can fix these files. I tried the obvious and grabbed a windows 10 version of compact and that just wouldn't work on win 7. Anybody got any suggestions.

Load Win 10 in a VM, decompress, save to a Win 7 accessable drive (hd, flash, etc) then blow away the VM.

Yeah that was what I was gonna do in fact i'm in the process of doing it I was just hoping there would be a quicker way than setting up a VM. Thanks anyway.
