So I am needing some assistance with my SSD. I installed a Samsung 840 EVO ssd into my windows machine last month. The performance had been nothing short of amazing but when I clocked the startup time with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, I thought 30 seconds was a little long for a ssd.
I started playing around with improving the startup time last night but I think I've made things worse. After doing some Googleing last night, I found that I should have switched my BIOS and sata controller to AHCI instead of IDE. I tried switching the controller to AHCI and restated my computer. I quickly found that this was causing BSOD for whatever reason. I then reverted the bios back to IDE.
I ended up running a hot fix from Microsoft that allowed me to switch from IDE to AHCI. This worked...kind of. I restarted my computer and found that Windows was installing a number of different drivers, including ATA controllers and for the Samsung ssd. Most of the driver installs failed for some reason but now here is where my problem stands...
I can start windows just fine. It loads and all of my programs fire right up. But now, my Samsung ssd is being read as just a hard drive on my computer, instead of the primary hard drive. The windows flag that is usually assigned to the primary drive is no longer showing on the drive either.
I also now have a blank removable device that I can't remove. It's reading as H:. There is nothing on the device and it's showing as having all of its space being used. I can't access this device and I can't eject it either.
I tried restoring windows to an earlier restore point with the hope that would undo all of the changes that I had made but no changes were applied.
How can I revert windows back to how I had my primary drive setup prior to doing all of this?
