For a few years, my Netgear router DG834G ran trouble free 24/7. Unfortunately it died and was replaced a few months ago with another Netgear router DGN2000. Occassionally over the past week or so, it drops connection, resulting in the need for me to switch it off, wait 1 minute, switch it on and normal service is resumed.
My local telephone exchange is just under 5 miles from home and is not yet converted to digital, so my download speed is on average 1.5mb.
Do you have this problem when running 24/7 with yours.

The two most popular makes here are Fritz.box and Netgear

I would buy a Linksys Cisco router from the states and ship it over to Europe... You guys may have the fastest cars but we got the best Routers... LOL

lol maybe but as I have no problems with either think I'll give it a miss

Here in the states we are very familiar with Netgear. I guess they are good; I wouldn't call them the best. It does its job. Linksys just has that Cisco background that gives them a good name.

I have heard of fritz.box when I lived in Germany but never used it.

If I am not mistaken, I would go on the websites and some websites like netgear offers a demo of their WEBUI that way you can see what the router can provide to you. If anything, you want features on your router. By looking at the demo, you can see how its setup so you can do your advance configuration.

Also have to take into consideration... What you are going to do with these routers... Wireless, Wired, 100 MB 1000 MB??

Can you give us an explanation on what kind of setup you want to do and we can probably lead you into the right direction on the best router for your situation or even the best setup.

My Netgear Router is set as per my ISP's instructions and works well most of the time. Netgear USA + Netgear Europe use different firmware.

I know majority of the ISP's in Europe mostly offer DSL.

Firmware is Firmware just in a different language. They still have to sustain the 802.3 & 802.11 standards.

Well when I was in Germany I plugged in PPoE information into my DSL to obtain the IP address. Then I just told my router to grab an IP from the DSL box or just bridged the connection so that the Router took control of everything and even dialed my ISP and stayed connected (always on)

Is there a certain way you want to set up your network... I mean how many computers are you planning in your network... many of them wired or wireless. Wireless G or N cards for the laptops.. that could make a big difference in cost and speed for which router you choose.
