hey fellow windows seven buffs,
I am still running the RC7100 build I have gotten the last beta release of 7600-16385 from a friend of mine that switched back to XP(likely story)
that he got from MS before they closed it to public (so he says) my question is can I use my 7100 keys to run this or is the 7600 a different set of keys? I have read posts that your original keys that were provided by MS for the RC 7100 and above will work is This only Rumor? Can anyone shed light on this so I can either use the Discs as Coasters for my coffee or install this badboy!

7600 keys are different. You can however re-arm it to continue using it for 120 days, which is after twin 7 is set to be released to the public

Try this,

‘Rearm’ trick on Windows 7 is done using the similar commands and steps with Windows Vista. Follow these steps to reset and extend activation grace period from 30 days to 120 days in Windows 7:
  1. Install Windows 7 without any product activation key.
  2. After installation is completed, use the Windows 7 for 30 days and wait for the remaining days left to activate Windows counting down to 0, or almost zero.
  3. When the activation grace period (or evaluation trial period) is almost expired or ended, log on to Windows 7 desktop, and open a Command prompt. window (i.e. type Cmd in Start Search and hit Enter).
  4. Type any of the following commands into the command prompt, and then hit Enter: sysprep /generalize
    slmgr.vbs –rearm
    rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows
    slmgr /rearm
  5. Reboot Windows 7 to enjoy another 30 days of free usage without worrying about activation nor even need to crack Windows 7.
  6. When the activation grace period countdown timer almost running down to 0 again, repeat the ‘rearm’ trick to enjoy another 30 days of Windows 7 for free. User can run the rearm command for maximum of 3 times.
As rearm only works for 3 times, make sure the command is only been run when the 30 days countdown of evaluation period is almost expired

Does rearm work for the MS distributed Win7 Enterprise?

MS is now letting us get Win7 Enterprise and it runs for 90 days -
Windows 7 free download "for all"; RTM trials and tribulations - Computerworld Blogs

I was wondering two things:

1. will the rearm command work on this version (i.e.- can there be three 90 day terms, like is described here?). Maybe not three, but does rearm work at all?

2. There is a way to delete a file and allow installation of any version of Win7 from the RTM; does this also work on the Win7 Enterprise so I could install Ultimate, for example, instead of Enterprise?

Thanks

1) I doubt it. The eval version will run (without restrictions) for 10 days without activation. The 90 days is after activation using a pre-applied key. If the re-arm applies only to the unactivated copy (as it does for the RTM), and you are allowed 3 re-arms, that'd buy you an additional 30 days at most.

2) Maybe. The Enterprise iso is about 100MB smaller than the RTM Ultimate one, but it still contains the ei.cfg file. However, I expect that the pre-applied license key would only support the Enterprise version, so even if you could install one of the other versions, you couldn't activate it.

I've included some facts above. Their consequences are speculative on my part.

(1) Unknown as of yet, but fairly pointless since it's going to expire anyway. If anyone gives a hoot about re-arm, there's the RTM version. And in a couple more weeks, anyone installing RTM early will simply be able to buy the final version on October 22, thus circumventing any "need" to re-arm.

(2) No.

The Enterprise trial is primarily useful for the IT pros at whom it's targeted. It also gives others the ability to download a "trial" directly from Microsoft and have it run for 90 days. But for anyone who wants to mess around with re-arms, or installing other versions prior to official release, etc., it's pretty much not worth it. And installing anything else is going to require an entirely fresh install. You can't "upgrade" from this to anything else.

As far as I am aware enterprise and Ultimate are feature identical only the licensing structure is different
