rundll32 running at 100%

Today when i tried to play NFS Underground on my notebook and the first time i double clicked the speed.exe file it didn't work. After i tried again it worked but it was unusually slow so i checked the task manager and saw rundll32 process using 100% of my processor. I closed it but it also closed my game. Any ideas ? I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials and it detected nothing.

I found some information for you about rundll32. On another site, it mentions that it can also be a virus. The information that I found, is too voluminous to put here, so I will let you read. Problems or questions come back, glad to have you.

I had the same problem with Hostile Waters. I think this is an older application issue. I have seen posts with the same issue for games like StarCraft as well. Other, newer games run fine on my machine, like Medieval2 total war and Oblivion.

I think there also a significance to the sequence you mentioned. Like you say, launching the app the first time just launches the run32dll and maxes out the cpu. Then the second time launches the app proper.

Running in compatibility mode DOES NOT WORK. I can not emphasise this enough. In fact I have not found a single thing that does work in compatibility mode.

I read through the article posted here and it mentions a corrupt exe. I will have a look and see if this corrects the issue. Will continue the hunt!
