I ran into a problem with a friend of mine. She was having problems with her computer trying to run programs when her computer desktop was running in basic mode and not in Aero mode. There was 2 accounts on the computer one in Aero and one in basic. When she logon on to the one in Aero everything ran fine. When she logon on to the one in basic her account. Everything she tried to run didn't work or couldn't change or update.

I ask her if she always ran it in basic and she said she had never change the desktop. As soon as we change it back to Aero than everything was fine. I might be wrong but you should be able to run in the basic mode with no problems right. Does Win 7 change all the programs to run in basic mode and do you have to setup those programs to run right in basic mode. Or is this a commom problem with Win 7.

I'm also having a tough time understanding what's going on, but I'll venture a guess. It sounds like one user account is running Aero just fine, while another is stuck in Basic Mode. If you can switch it back to Aero, then it is fine, and was only set that way as the default...which happens occasionally. If it keeps reverting back to Basic, you might have an issue with the graphics drivers...at least under that account.

There are some programs out there, such as Paint Shop Pro 7, GoToMeeting, etc that revert Windows 7 back to the Basic theme until they close, so it is possible this second account is running an incompatible app.

What I'm saying is for some reason her's basic desktop was just plain with no colors when she was on the internet or ran some programs. When she would go to sign in on comcast the logon box was just white. When it should be green. It acted like some of the colors were not there like green & red.

In 25yrs working on computers I never ran into something like that and I have see a lot things too. It is like somebody was messing with her color calibration settings. I was just posting to see if anybody had come across something like this before.
