Safely remove hardware & eject media- Hard Drive

In my task tray, it has that icon for "safely remove hardware & eject media" icon, when I right click it, it shows my main hard drive as the device... Now I just built this computer. So did I plug it into the wrong SATA slot?

no, you`re fine, it`s not uncommon to see this.

My Gateway does the same thing with it`s Crucial ssd, we`ve looked into this and have no clue why it does it.

Mine did that on the Intel ports until I installed the IRST driver.

It still does it on the Marvell ports.

Are you plugged in to one of these I outlined below?



According to your manual those are the Intel ports.

The other four are ASMedia.

Yes mine are plugged in on the two at the end in the outlined. So how would I go about fixing this? Do I switch them to the others or install that driver?

I would try the driver myself, have you installed any of the drivers for your board?

We thought it had something to do with these options here, but changing them did nothing, the icon still remained.

Yeah, I found that mentioned a few times when I was looking around, I don't even have a Policies tab in W8.1

That's a safe bet.

I know installing the IRST driver got rid of it on the Intel ports.

Couldn't find a solution for my HDD that was connected to the Marvell port so I just moved it to one of the SATAII ports to get rid of the safely remove icon.

There is a registry setting for marking drive as internal, I will try to find it again. Used it on a friends laptop 2.5 months ago.
