Samba Share Networkmounting as X,Y,Z works, \\Share\mount not

I had this idea as well and i tried it out already. At the moment i am hardwired and the problem i am describing is while the notebook is wired! I quickly verified it now with wlan. Same annoying results.

I am far from being literate in the ways of networking, but I have noticed when trying to connect my Dear Wife's (DW) devices to our Wi-Fi that they need a security key and it is case sensitive.

I do understand that wired communication between devices is different and it looks to me that you have covered everything.

Is this notebook fully updated with Windows, Debian, and Samba?

Are the MAC addresses, Security Keys, any other input done by hand correct?

I left a VM to chev65 to see if he could stop by and take a look. It may take a bit, He's on the US West coast and its 5:36am pst out there so hang in there.

Steve

Thank you guys so much for helping. As i can connect with 2 out of 3 machines via \\netbios name\mount and \\ip\mount i can confirm that logins and passwords are correct and smb.conf at least allows 2 machines to connect. so as i can rule (almost) out a smb misconfiguration , i conclude that it is a windows 7 specific problem. as i was googling i couldnt find applicable solutions to this problem (net view - server is not configured for transactions) beside people that reinstalled windows 7, which i would definetly like to avoid. would be nice if there was a microsoft hotfix that for. i keep my fingers crossed for other great ideas!

Have you seen this? Especially Step 3, and maybe 4: Wired and wireless network connection problems in Windows - Microsoft Windows Help

When running the troubleshooters, run them from the Notebook. Take note that you can find more network troubleshooters at Microsoft not just the one already installed on your Notebook....By the way, do you have a make/model number of this Notebook?

If my instructions are unclear please ask for clarification.

You may have HDD or file problems on the Notebook, have you tried running CHKDSK this will take some time so be patient, and then SFC /scannow?

And what is the operating system (OS) on the Notebook? Your screenshot in post #1 looks to be from XP,

I'm not certain that these settings will have the desired effect but these are the usual settings which allow for access to Samba shares and to access Server 03 and below.

Do these adjustments on the Windows 7 machines that need to connect to the server.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

The screen shots below should be helpful.

Reboot all machines after making the adjustments.

First of all I would like to thank you guys for taking great care of my problem and trying to help. I feel pretty stupid at the moment because I am running out of ideas and normally I fix such kind of problems by myself. However after extensive googleing and research I kind of gave up because I saw that people having this problem did reinstall their systems and or didn't report back how they fixed it. So that's why I landed in the forum here.

And what is the operating system (OS) on the Notebook? Your screenshot in post #1 looks to be from XP,
It is definitely Windows 7 Professional 64bit SP1. (That screenshot you are referring to, was kindly provided by Google Search ;))

I have done that and I also rebooted the machine. Sadly there was now "jumping around and virtually hugging chev65" ;( So it didn't work! It is just very weired that with my notebook I am able to map it as a "network drive" and see it under my "Computer" but I can not mount it as \\Samba\share or \\ip\share and it doesn't show up in the "network environment". However it is pingable without any problems.
