I am getting my first smartphone very soon - a Samsung Focus running Windows Phone 7. I'm getting annoyed with app crashes and general performance issues with my iPod Touch (plus I hate Apple anyway...) A 1 GHz CPU and 512 MB of RAM in a cell phone sounds just awesome. If I put a SIM card into it from my go phone, would it work (both are AT&T). I've heard that smartphones require a data plan, and I want to get one without a data plan and think maybe taking the SIM from my other phone might let me do that...

You should be able to put any old sim in (I did with my Samsung Omnia 7) but after a while you will find you want that data connection while on the move.
