My ultrabook keyboard and mouse have stopped working today, so I presumed hardware problems, but when booting with a usb stick under linux everything works fine. So it cant be hardware.

Is there way to force-load or replace specific drivers during bootup. ?

Cheers

Thanks for the reply, but there is not a driver for the keyboard on the support site. Just the touchpad.

Control panel reports the device is working properly.

Hmmm

Hi shawfield ,And is the touchpad working now?,The keyboard driver will be intergrated with the chipset driver, Did you reinstall that ? :)

Hi
Deleted keyboard from device manager, scanned for new devices & keyboard installed. Instantly re-working. Great !

Touchpad is not showing as present in device manager ( either as standard mouse, Human interface device or anything else ). Installed the downloaded touchpad driver.

No change. No touchpad.

Made sure the Samsung proprietory 'Function F5' touchpad toggle in 'on'...its on.

External mouse detected & works ok ( hence I can get into 7forums ). External keyboard also detected fine.

Rebooted after each change to device manager, touchpad still not working.

Running out of options !
Touchpad still fine if I boot into Linux on a usb.

So I guess I still need to find some way to stimulate detection of the touchpad...
Any thoughts ?

Hi shawfield, Having a look around the internet I find a lot of people with this problem, Fixes range from toggling fn+f5/f10 to closing the lid for 15 seconds to emulate sleep mode to removing /replacing ac power adaptor :(

Was discarded by previous owner due to "horrible performance".
Was running Win Xp from a IDE drive. Yeah. Was a pain.
SATA II drive and Win7 and it zips away! Yay!
Yes saw those posts too. Didnt work for me, although it did happen when I plugged the charger in.
Did a 'SIMPLE RESTORE' using samsung own software, but no good. Did a full restore which instigated a full Samsung driver restore once windows was installed...but guess what...

Only the keyboard works, still no touchpad. Damn

Still trying to understand how it can work under Linux but not Win7...

Hi again.

Looks like it is hardware after all. No touchpad on Windows or Linux now.
Intermittent keyboard, not working on 4 out of 5 reboots.

No luck with SFC or driver re-installation via safe mode ( or any mode come to that ! )

Looks like a £1000 notebook, 3 months out of warranty, that's in for the inevitable expensive repair.
Oh well...thats life.

Hi shawfield, You could try Ebay look for a palmrest and keyboard the palmrest should include the touchpad, If you feel confident in doing it yourself :)

Haha true. I could, but of course the only point in paying that much in the first place is have the lightweight 'macbook air' lookalike. So lugging around add-ons doesn't really fit with that ethos :-)

I'll bite the bullet & pay Samsung to put it right. Thanks for all your help & also everyone else who contributed

Cheers

Hi shawfield, I think you misunderstood me , The palmrest is what you call the front facia of the laptop which holds the keyboard and touchpad inplace on the laptop

Hi shawfield,

Perhaps you accidentally ticked a check box setting that's disabling the keypad? On my Asus notebook I can set my touchpad to be automatically disabled whenever I install an external mouse. However it also re-enables when the mouse is removed.

That said, you might give the software a look-see to see if any settings have changed regarding this feature. If you don't see it under Control Panel, Mouse settings, check the actual mouse software if you have it installed for this setting.

Example, my setting for auto disabling isn't in the mouse settings under control panel, it's in the Asus Smart Gesture software...
