Solved Saving order of programs in custom quick launch toolbar

I had a custom quick launch toolbar displayed on my Windows 7 Professional taskbar. Somehow, when I first set it up, I was able to rearrange the order of the programs on the toolbar and the order was saved so that it was the same every time I rebooted. I inadvertently removed this custom toolbar. When I selected the same folder as a new toolbar, it displays all the programs, but I cannot figure out how to get it to remember the order of the programs when I reorder them. Every time I reboot, it comes back in alphabetical order.

I've searched every set of keywords I can think of and can't find my answer. Hopefully someone here can help me. Thanks!

I made a custom toolbar with a folder. It's called "My Quick Launch" in:

C:\Users\Dan\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

I forget the reason why now, but when I was creating the toolbar initially, there was some reason why there were limitations with the Quick Launch that's already there, and the solution was to create a custom toolbar that is like the Quick Launch toolbar. It may have been this problem of keeping the icons ordered in a non-alphabetical order; I can't remember. In any case, I can't get the custom toolbar to retain the order I want.

Thank you for your suggestions, but that's not what I'm looking for. I used to be able to drag the icons in "My Quick Launch" toolbar that I have displayed in the taskbar, and Windows would remember the order the next time I rebooted the system. It didn't have anything to do with auto arrange, which appears to only work on the desktop.

I just happened on the solution to my own problem. I created a new folder to hold my custom quick launch toolbar. I added a new toolbar to the taskbar, pointing to this new folder. I then dragged all of the icons onto the toolbar and ordered them as I desired. So far, it is remembering the order I put them in, which is not alphabetical.

What I had been trying to do was point my "new" toolbar to an already existing folder of shortcuts, and the only order it would remember in that case was alphabetical.

Glad you got it sorted, that's what I had in mind, and didn't know why it didn't work. Looks like you hit upon the fix
