Screen Going Blank

I have noticed recently that every now and then my screen is going blank. I am surfing the web or doing work and suddenly the screen goes black (Backlight is still on). If I am playing music the music stops and mouse (cursor) disappears from screen aswell. It is asthough everything stop working. The only way to get back is to restart the laptop.

does anybody have any suggestions to solve this. Many thanks

Hi there, it could be due to a corrupt video card driver.

Things to check:
1: Make sure the video drivers are updates.
2: Remove and reseat the video card and check if its working.
3: Run a monitor self-test. (Simply remove the cable that connects to the monitor from computer and then watch the screen for 10-15 mins to check if everything's ok with the monitor.

1: Have checked this and they are all OK.
2: How can I locate this in my laptop?
3: Will try the 2nd tip first

Oops! I thought you have a desktop. Then we can bypass the step of removing the video card.
Is it due to heat? Run SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer and check the temp.

Well my temps at the very minute are:

HD:48C
Temp1:48C
Temp2:52C
Core:51C

Temp2 has a small flame next to it.
And core has a red arrow pointing upwards.
HD also has a Red arrow now.

Im not sure what this really means.

The temps looks OK. If possible, back up all your stuffs and do a clean install of Windows 7. If the issue persists even after reinstalling windows, then it will be sure that its a hardware issue. probably motherboard or video card.

Ok thanks I will do that, If i just do an upgrade this will keep my programs and files would that be alright to do that?

The only reason I recommended to reinstall Windows just to rule out the fault. If its not a software fault, it will definitely lead to a replacement of hardware part (which will involve cost). I know its a Pain to reinstall each and every thing. But if your computer is in warranty, get it checked by the PC manufacturer and get a replacement of the faulty hardware, if possible.

Hi guys thought i would post back, I have re-installed windows 7 (as an upgrade) so I have kept all files, programs and settings and as of yet everything seems to be running perfectly
