To the best of my knowledge, my Windows 7 machine is just fine and has been for many years. When I walk away from the machine, instead of tuning it off, I put it into standby mode. When I come back, I jiggle the mouse, the machine wakes up, and back to work.
Yesterday, when I jiggled the mouse, the computer woke up, but nothing appeared on the monitor. (Note: The machine has a new monitor, new monitor cable, and a fairly new VGA card.) Using my laptop, I used remote desktop to the access the machine – no issue and as soon as I did the login screen appeared. I logged out from remote desktop, logged in, and everything was fine.
Oddly, the same thing just happened (this is the first restoration from standby mode after the above incident). This time, I rebooted my machine.
Question: Why the heck is this happening? Seems highly unlikely that it is a hardware issue. More importantly, is there anything I can do to make sure this doesn’t happen again?
