screen recording is extremely slow with any program/codec

i cant seem to get above 13fps with any screen capture program or codec. i can have absoultly nothing running, except for windows, and set a program such as camtasia to 640x480 and i wont get above 13fps.

ive eliminated any interfering programs as the issue(nothing but stock windows and hp coolsense)

ive already ran a virus scan, in my case a full boot time scan with avast

ive tried multiple programs with several different codecs, including xvid.

all my drivers are at there latest

as for hardware, i have an old mid end laptop from 2006(with identical software/os) that can get 30fps easy on a 640x480 capture resolution, so why do i have issues on an even faster computer.

am i missing anything obvious? because at this point i am stuck.

Can you list the specs of the old laptop? also, screen capturing is a heavy program, and given your specs, 13-20 fps might be fine. Did you perhaps try another program, like FRAPS ? or bandicam?

sorry for the late reply, and its nolonger working but i can post what i remember.

2006 era sony vaio(i forget the model number)

intel Pentium t2390 dual core @ 1.87ghz
2GB of ddr2 ram
intel mobile 965 express chipset gpu
~250GB harddrive
the software (antivirus os installed programs) are nearly identical to whats on my current laptop

surely hardware cant be the issue considering the improvement compared to my old laptop and the one im currently using
