Screen resolution problem

My monitors native resolution should be 1680 x 1050 as its a 22 inch wide screen, and it was running fine in that setting when I shut down my PC before I went to bed last night. Now I wake up turn it on and the resolution has changed to 1280 x 720 for no discernible reason, and cannot be changed to go higher.

So far I have tried to change it back via the control panel and Nvidia control panel to no avail, I tried using custom resolution in Nvidia control panel also the test fails. I have updated display drivers and updated windows 7 to try to fix the problem neither has worked.

Does anyone know how to rectify this very annoying and unnecessary problem?

Check the cables to be sure they are not loose. Is the monitor correctly I identified on the windows screen resolution page?

The problem seems to have sorted itself out, seems kiinda weird though, im not sure exactly how it was resolved. I fiddled with cables and settings and what not, think it might be a case of my monitor being on its way out. Thanks anyway.

If your video cable is bad or has a loose connection it may be scrambling the EDID data. If you have a spare video cable I'd swap that before replacing the monitor. If might save you a few bucks.
