Screen Saver Password Enabled after Enabling in GPEDIT

This computer is admin ; and to protect elected to use text screen saver with expectation to have it password protected. To do so I went into Gpedit.msc and firstly enabled password protect the screen saver. The screen saver did not offer a password when I access the machine. I then enabled screen saver timeout.
After a few minutes the screen saver kicked in. I again could access the machine without being challenged for a password. Last I enable 'screen saver' and that did not work. I am unable using the obvious tools - to password protect the computer using the password screen saver.

And after all this effort I thought I'd change the screen saver from text to photos to see if that would help and 'wait and on resume' are now greyed out?

If there is another obvious method to enable a screen saver with a password protect let me know.

Why not use the simple method of right clicking the desktop, choose personalize, screensaver and then check "on resume display login screen"? Although I am not sure why its not working after using gpedit. Did you restart the pc? Did you try gpupdate /force in command prompt?

Also make sure there is a password on the user account.

The first step was to do exactly what you described 'enable password' and that did not work. And thus gpedit - and the reboots - and nothing worked. I will try the command as suggested. Thanks for posting !

Hmm that's quite odd.

1.) What screensaver are you using? 3rd party or windows?

2.) Are you having any other issues with the lock screen (logon screen) ?

Forgive me if this sounds stupid. The account does have a password? It must have a windows password for the screensaver password to work. If the steps on this tutorial don't work, Dinesh has included reg files:

This machine is on a company network domain. It is HP 8200 Elite. All the computers here are the Elite. This computer we use Windows screen saver - I tried 'none' and then left the screen saver at 'Text'. When the screen saver presents itself I move the mouse and the desktop comes up - ideally one should be challenged for a password that matches this user's account.

That is why I went through the gpedit exercises enable to disable to enable and so forth - whatever I did the password protect screen saver never materialized.

Are you the admin of the domain? Are you in the IT department? I would think you are but just checking.
If not, just report it. Something is wrong.
Otherwise, try setting the group policy on the server side, and then go from there.
What windows server are you using?
