SD card readyboost?

i have a 4gb sd card and it should work for readyboost shouldnt it??
but anyway it says

this device cannot be used for readyboost

The device does not have the required peformance characteristics for use in speeding up your system

can it readyboost my laptop or not?

I have windows 7 ultimate X86 running on the laptop if i get that one (from the UK site) will it be able to use the whole 8GB?

You are right, we don't see many USB Drives advertised for use with Ready Boost, but actuality its just a specifications requirement and any USB flash drive that meets them may be used...

The device must have an access time of 1 ms or less.

The device must be capable of 2.5 MB/s read speeds for 4 KB random reads spread uniformly across the entire device, and 1.75 MB/s write speeds for 512 KB random writes spread uniformly across the device.

Windows 7 allows up to eight devices for a maximum of 256 GB of additional memory.

Worth noting that the addition of a SSD drive has removed the need or ability to use Readyboost in my system. Not really much of a loss but before adding the sata III SSD I did enjoy some increase with a quick 4gb sd card even though my system has 8gb of ram. The sd would light up on many tasks !

I have a scan disk 8GB It is a 2.0 high speed USB drive. It works with my ready boost. I was wondering. It says that I can use a maximum of 4GB. But I read some where that you can use it all by checking the dedicate this device to ready boost. Is that true. Also if I do dedicate it to ready boost. Will it work around the files i do have saved on my USB already. It is not very much at all it is 80 Kb's of files that is it.

Thank you. doing right now. Also if I want I can go back to only using as much of my USB space for ready boost right. Here is a good question. If I dedicate the USB to ready boost. Will it make space for new stuff I try to save onto the USB. Or do I have to go and make it so it does not use as much space again.

You will have to allot less space for ReadyBoost. Like any drive without enough space for a file you will get a message. As cheap as these usb sticks are getting I keep a ReadyBoost in the system always and then write and read off another one plugged into a different port.
