SDA compliant card reader (Ricoh) code 10 cannot start

Hi all,

I have a samsung x60 Plus which as of yet has no windows 7 specific drivers but it does have Vista.

The laptop has a ricoh card reader (xd, sd smc) this does work as I have rebooted into XP and it reads and writes fine.

In windows 7 I either end up with the standard SDA driver that win7 installs which reports as working correctly but nothing happens when you enter a memory card OR I get error code 10 cannot start, depending on which set of the various vista and windows 7 drivers I have tried.

So far I have tried;
Generic Ricoh windows 7 card reader drivers
Samsung x60 Vista card drivers and vista chipset drivers
Windows standard drivers

Anyone have any ideas..? Does seem to be a fairly common problem but I have tried quite a few solutions with no luck. Any help greatly appreciated.

Welcome to seven forums kangarolf: Unfortunately you may need to wait for the manufacture to provide windows seven specific drivers, since you have tried all the others without success. The only other idea I would have is to copy and paste the hardware id string to see if a driver can be located. To do this go to device manager>click on device>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id. Fabe

I'll try it though I have already tried a number of the generic Ricoh driver packs.

What else could it be...chipset drivers perhaps..? In XP it picks it up straight away and in windows 7 the windows provided standard SDA driver installs ok just no activity when you insert a card. =( Was hoping to use some of my old 4gb SD cards for readyboost.

I have the same problem and already tried a lot of configurations. But same problems as kangarolf described. Perhaps someone can post a solution.

Thanks for your quick answer. But I have already tried that. I think it is a special Samsung <-> Ricoh Cardreader problem, because other notebook manufacturers seem to have no such errors.

If you can find a laptop model with the same card reader, get its driver, use universal extractor to extract the exe, and then run the file.

Hi - I too have a samsung x60plus with the same problem - card reader does not work. It works fine under windows xp - (I have just formatted the drive and loaded xp to check and then loaded windows 7)
I have been in touch with samsung who say that windows 7 drivers "should" work - but clearly they don't.
Any one have a solution?
I have installed original xp drivers in compatability mode and also the latest vista drivers but neither work under windows 7. I have also found same card reader as supplied in different manufacturer laptops and tried their drivers - but still no good. I have "do not show empty drives" unticked.
I could do with some help please.
Many thanks
