Hi there,

So I am here because I am having some hard drive problems. Firstly for my Primary drive i am still running my old 250gb Hard drive (with windows already installed on this drive). Secondly, for my slave drive i have a Samsung Spinpoint 1TB Hard drive that wont display in my bios or in disk management. The 1TB drive seems to spin up fine etc. but i just can get it to display so i was just wondering if someone here could help me get this to work so i can format this new disk. Also i must add that my motherboard is an ASUS p8z68-v-pro board.

Thanks in advance

check the connections--make sure that the drive is connected to one of the BLUE sata3 ports (there should be 4) and NOT to the GRAY sata6 ports (should be 2 ports)

it is also possible that you may need to update your BIOS--see:

Hi Tman,

Thanks for your reply!

Currently the 1TB drive is connected to the blue port "sata3g_3"with a 3gb's sata cable. I am currently running bios 0902 and have just noticed there is a recent bios update. I will try an update and see how it goes and will post back ASAP.

Cheers

tman is right. You have a Sata connection problem. The power apparently works, else it would not spin.

my master 250gb drive (with windows) is connected to my "sata3g_4"port.
and my new drive the 1TB (drive not working) is connected to my "sata3g_3"port, both drives are connected with sata 3gb/s cables and in bios mode i have AHCI enabled. Hope this helps ?

You can use the Sata3 ports. They are indeed backward compatible. But I would try IDE in lieu of AHCI. And check that the Sata cable is really well connected - on both ends.

it is also possible that you 'might' need to update your BIOS (but this could be a bit extreme) or firmware--see:

Ok so i have changed ports, and still no show in bios or disk management. I even tried changing the bios settings to IDE mode instead of AHCI mode and at start up all i end up getting is a cursor in the top left hand corner of that black screen that just sits there and flash's and windows does not load. *sigh* .. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey scrooge.

I got these hard drives cheaps from a local shop. They were selling them as damaged stock really really cheaps, when i purchased it they had motherboards setup so u could plug and play your potential hardware to check for faults. So i ended up buying x2 of these drives. This one must be a dud, even though i know its getting power. Ill try the second drive i had got from there that i have sitting beside me and ill re-post...its a pain having power down and reboot all the time LOL  but ill see if this other drive is any better..

I appreciate the help so far, thanks :)

Hey Scrooge,

Nah ur exactly correct! i got both drives for 10AUD :) was worth a shot, when they were tested they both spin up, but i just cant get them to register as they should. So im guessing some part must be faulty.. Was worth the gamble in my opinion, could of been a good winner! but oh well..

Thanks for all the help here, was greatly appreciated.

Cheers
