My Windows updates are set to download automatically. I receive notification of this so that I can select which ones to install.
My problem is that I select, close the screen, but when I reopen it it has reverted back.
Initial screen:

After selection:

After closing and reopening:

I've only just realised this was happening but it's probably been like that for ages.

I don't install right away. They're scheduled to install at a time when the PC is on, but I won't be actively using it.

Hello Alicante and welcome 7 Forums

Why don't you just make some time to install these updates without doing anything else besides make a coffee or take a trip to the bog etc.

Have you done a recent reinstall?

Make sure you check the updates you want and then in the lower right tick OK. When the next page comes up like in your post #1 just tick on Instal Updates and wait during installation.

I agree with Wolfeymole. When I do updates I do nothing else on the computer.

I do check (or uncheck) the boxes and click OK. I don't do anything else on the computer. Like I said they're scheduled to install at a time that suits me when I know I won't be using the computer.
Installing in itself is not the problem. The problem is that it's not retaining my selections and installing what I want, or don't want.

They install when you tick the Install Updates. If you don't tick on Install Updates it will just keep jumping up.
Why don't you just install them now? If for what ever reason you don't install them now you will have to make your selection all over again.

There is an InstallNow button. Why? Why let you assume there is an option if there isn't?
I want my computer to work for me, not me work for it.

Windows updates are a very important part of your Windows installation & they need to be kept up to date, as they contain security provisions & problem fixes. Not installing them can leave your computer vulnerable to virus & malware attacks, which can render your computer unusable.

They DO install. Just not the ones I want to. For instance there is always an optional update for my monitor. I always tick it. I now assume I don't get it and never have, hence it reappearing. Likewise an 'important' update for Silverlight - which I got rid of long ago.
My point is if there isn't something wrong here, as nobody seems to think there is, why give me the option to select, then ignore it. Very logical. :sarc:

According to people here the standard procedure is to install straight away, then, as above, why give the facility to schedule them?

I must be completely be misunderstanding you.
Any update you don't want to keep coming back just right tick on that update and select Hide.

That's exactly what I do. But if you look at the screencaps it doesn't keep the selections after I close the window. It used to work, I kept hiding IE10 and 11 and they didn't install. I closed the window then too and it installed corectly at the scheduled time. Now it installs what it wants to, not what I tell it.
I don't want to be forced into installing IE12 whenever it appears. :(

I don't believe Windows Update will give you a auto Upgrade for I.E..
It will give you Updates for the the I.E. you have installed.
Example:
If you are running I.E. 10 you will get updates for I.E. 10 but you will not get a auto upgrade to I.E. 11.

Now open I.E. and go to Help. It will tell you what I.E. you are using and give you a choice to auto update or not with a check mark.

*** I accept all I.E. Updates (not upgrades) except Bing. Because I don't like Bing.
Every now and then I still get a update for Bing but I just hide it.

Post an image of your Windows Update options (Sample Below). I think you are confused between Automatic Updates and Let Me Choose options.

If you follow my instruction in post # 11 I don't believe you will get a Upgrade of I.E..
Now open I.E. and go to Help. It will tell you what I.E. you are using and give you a choice to auto update or not with a check mark.

First - I know I'm using IE9. Very occasionally, but that's the version installed.
Second - I know of people who have been automatically upgraded to IE10. No question of them ticking or unticking wrongly.

That's not in the least surprising - the upgrade to IE10 went from being an optional one to an automatic one well before IE11 came out.
IE11 is not yet being rolled out as an automatic update, as far as I know - it's been an optional one since release in November. It's offered, yes, but is not 'ticked' by default - but I haven't checked it recently

Good day Noel.
If I remember correctly with the way alicante has the Updates set it will still have to be checked (accepted) before the Upgrade will install.
Is that your understanding?

Yup! Update is performing just as the OP has it optioned. Each update must be selected and the Install button clicked. The day and time is greyed out so it's not active.
