I have windows live mail in Windows 7 and when I send pictures by "Add Photo" and send one to myself I can not open it to a larger size. I use to be able to but now I can't and don't know why?

Just add them as attachments.

Just to make sure, you do realize that the "Photo Email" option means you are NOT sending the photo by email. Instead, you are sending a thumbnail image which provides a link to a Microsoft server which should have the full size image.

That is correct so now I can not double click on my photo to bring it up to the full size screen image. I'm wondering what is wrong.

I just tried the same thing. You're right, there seems to be something wrong. You can no longer click it to go to Microsoft's server to download the full size image. And if you right click, to use the option to "save high res version", it is greyed out and all you can do is "save as" which saves the small thumbnail version. Seems like more of a problem with the WLM "add photo" option than with Microsoft's server since WLM doesn't even try to access a web page when you click on the received or sent email thumbnail. Strange, it worked the last time I tested it on June 10th.

I determined I upgraded to the current version (14.0.8117.0416) on June 20th. Could that be the problem? Other than Photo email failing to associate a web link with the thumbnail image, everything else seems the same.

I was using the beta version of WLM, but reverted to the earlier version that you're using, because Beta's got too many features missing that I regularly use, like back ground format, etc. My sending format is SMTP.

I sent a test message to myself using the drop down menu of "New" and chose "Photo Email". When it opened, it auto showed an option to add the photos, which I did, and used the "Layout" button to show them as "Thumbnails". They were shown in the main body of the text. I was not signed in to Windows Live.

When I received them, they appeared as full size phtotos in the main body of the email text and could only be saved by right clicking each individual photo. The option to save as high res was grayed out. And the actual saved image was a thumbnail, not a full size pic.

I then repeated the experiment but this time I signed in to Windows Live using the "Sign in" option in the main GUI of WLM - top right hand side of window.

This time it worked perfectly. The incoming test email showed the pics as thumbnails, and they could be viewed in the interface of the main text of the message as a slide show. They could also be saved as a group with one click, or saved individually in high res.

Prior to this I had never used Photo Email so can't compare it to earlier results.

I'm using smpt also and signing in automatically. (By format I mean when you use the ISP's smtp server to send a message, you can set your WLM options to either text or html for the message body. Html is the default for email and text is the default for newsgroups, but the option is there.) I guess I'll have to try a "repair" install; an Update is not possible since I'm using the current non-beta version as you are. Or perhaps I've changed my "live" website privacy settings and that's the culprit. Thanks for checking.

Problem Solved!

In digging deeper into this matter I looked for previous posts by the OP and found a discussion about Photo email we had 3 weeks ago: http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/95204-attach-picture-email.html . That led me to a June 11th post that I made to summarize the "fix" that eliminated the annoyning dialog that always invites you to send a Photo email: http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/90395-wlm-photo-mail.html#post780891. Apparently, the registry "fix" (setting Publish photo to 0) also prevented photo email from working properly even when you want it to. What's especially annoying is the photo email function half-works, that is it sends the thumbnail instead of the photo but doesn't embed the url link with it. It would be preferable if it assumed that if you don't want to "Publish" to the web server, maybe you'd like to send the full sized photo in the email instead. But no you get neither. (The photo is not sent by email nor is it published to the MS server; only the thumbnail is sent.)
