Solved Service pack 1 error 0x800b0100 - corrupt .mum .manifest .cat files

I have several time tried to install SP1 on my home computer (os Windows 7 home premium 64 bit) but keep receiving the same error - I also have run multiple hotfixes and the system update readiness tool (checksur.exe) which seems to indicate that I have 8 problematic files - I have seen several similar posts here and thought I would try as well - my CheckSUR.log is attached.

Any assistance will be very greatly appreciated.

A Speccy report is also very useful - please PUBISH snapshot from the speccy file menu after is is done analysing and then post the URL in a new post. Thanks

Just a note on trouble shooting - be more explicit describing what you have tried. Which hotfixes?

Because I'm going to suggest this Error 0x800B0100 when you try to install Windows Updates or Microsoft Updates and if you've already tried it, we both knock heads.

Yes - I have tried the windows update troubleshooter you are referencing - I have posted the speccy report at:

I have 27 hotfixes showing in my windows updates - I am not sure of an easy way to list them here - I was looking at: Advanced guidelines for diagnosing and fixing servicing corruption
I unfortunately do not have a windows 7 disc with the referenced files, as HP didn't provide one with computer and only have provided a system recovery disc that will restore it to the factory condition (and don't feel very confident in judging whether the process is appropriate for my problem.

I've sourced about half of your files so far, so let's replace them and I'll try and get the other ones as we progress:

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)
   
   C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
   
   
6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)
   
   C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
   
   
7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:
   
   C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.

Thanks - you ran the trouble shooter and checksur - neither solved the Windows Update (WU) issue

I understand - the hotfixes were from WU, I thought you might have run them independently. Speecy will show what WU has on your machine.

HP - gotta love 'em. I have a few myself.

You might try the standalone SP1 if you haven't already, and if that fails...

The repair install tutorial explains how to create Windows install media that can be booted from a OD or USB. I don't like the name, but that's what MS references. I think older Windows simply refered to it as setup - not as ominous sounding as "install". Anyway, the repair is what's important.

Since you don't have SP1 installed Use option 6
6. Repair Installed Windows 7 without SP1 using Windows 7 without SP1 DVD/USB

I'm not certain if you could use option 4 or 5 (using the SP1 ISO or SP1 DVD/USB). That would be preferrable since it might not only fix the WU issue, but bring your machine up to SP1.

To be safe, go with option 6, and the associated "pain" of WU after SP1.

Although the System Update Readiness Tool isn't very good at fixing issues directly, it is a great diagnostics tool and the log here has shown us what the problem is As soon as we've replaced all of those files, Windows Update should be as good as new.

Tom - you must be a fast typist. It took me 12 minutes longer to post my thread.

Mark - follow one or the other suggestions, not both. I don't know if the stand alone SP1 (since it is a WU issue) or the Repair install will solve the issue. The repair install should, but there are core setup files missing. Tom is showing you a way to replace them "outside" of Windows.

Hello Mark,

The SURT has performed all of my file replacements The last few manifests look like native components, but there's only one way to find out - by tracing them manually through your registry. Could you upload your COMPONENTS registry sub hive please?

C:\Windows\system32\config\COMPONENTS (it has no file extension)

You will have to zip it up first.
