Services - Restore Default Services in Windows 7

How to Restore Default Services in Windows 7

   Information
This tutorial provides you with registry downloads that will completely restore any of the default services and their settings you want in Windows 7. This can be handy if a service was deleted by mistake, is missing, or had it's properties set improperly.

You must be logged in as an administrator to be able to do the steps in this tutorial.

   Note
Services are located in the registry location below.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services

   Warning
Do not add a service to a Windows 7 edition that the service was not available in by default. It will not work since it was never included in that edition.

If you did not delete a default service, then you might consider doing a full scan of your system at boot with a program like Windows Defender Offline to help make sure that your system is clean.

Here's How:1. Click on the Display Name link in the table below of the service that you would like to restore to download it's .reg file.

2. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

3. Right click on the downloaded .reg file and click on Merge.
NOTE: If you wish to see what changes will be made by the REG file, then you can right click on the extracted REG file and click on Edit to see the default registry entries that will be added. REG files are just text files. The "Edit" function just opens them in Notepad.

   Tip
If you do not see a Merge option when you right click on the REG file, then you will need to check in Default Programs to set the reg file extension to have it's Current Default program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe). Afterwards, try merging the REG file again.
4. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK.

5. Repeat all of the above steps if you would like to restore another service.

6. When finished, restart the computer to apply.

7. When finished, you can delete the downloaded .reg file(s) on the desktop if you like

Which service do you need? There is a download link for each service's reg file (click the name of the service you need in the table). You don't need to open Regedit to apply the reg files.

As you can see in this copy from Event Properties.

" The Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation process ( Audio.exe ) has terminated unexpectecly.
Process Exit Code : 0x0x80070005 "

This problem is over half a year old, been with it on seven forums and we find no solution but to change things in my Bios. I cannot get in there because I lost the code.

So I have been living with 2 little speakers attached to my laptop, which is no problem really.

But now only yesterday I read, that some one found out it could have to do with the Power.
Apparently this can influence the " Windows Audio Endpoint Builder"

So I like to get this sheet " Restore Services in Windows 7 " up, that is figured on the start of this tutorial. I don't know how to set that up.:o

Need to get to power some how so see if it is turned on ????????

Perhaps I need to open a thread in Sound

Hello Thelma, :)

The tutorial works by clicking on the link in the table for the service you want to restore to default, then merge the downloaded .reg file from the link.

I don't think this will apply to your situation though.

Ok, so I could work it from here right away, you see ........... I have masses to learn.

Also I am dyslectic so my brain works slightly different in finding solutions for problems, this was a big problem with maths !

Restore Default Services in Windows 7

Hi Brink,

I used the " Restore Default Services in Windows 7 " on Power, Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder and it did not solve the sound problem, so I will go to the audio forum with this problem.

Now that I know ( finally :o ) how it works, I will sure come back to it in the future ! Great helper !!

Thanks for thank :)

Usually, when it's that bad, you're looking at reinstalling Windows. :(

Is there a way to restore all the services to default at once , one at a time would take forever since i have many that need to be set back to default.

Usually, when it's that bad, you're looking at reinstalling Windows. :(

Actually, i was just experimenting with "Black Vipers" Win 7 service configurations but after setting everything differently i wanted to quickly restore back to default without needing to do it one at a time .

In that case, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before to quickly do so.

Hi Brink. I tried that it seems the anti virus that is running on the system is blocking the restore.
