Setting Autoplay options

Hi. I have been Googling this, but haven't been able to find the information I need. Maybe someone can help here?

I want the option to open a DVD/CD in Windows Explorer to show on the Autoplay option window that appears when I insert a disc into the drive. I am asked every time I put in a disc, which is what I want; the option is there in the configuration settings, but it doesn't appear in the autoplay window.. See screenshots.

I can remove the Open in Windows Media Player option if only four items will show (but how??)

I just discovered that if I insert a DVD-RW with video files on it, I get the above 'annoyance'. If the same DVD-RW has jpegs on it, I get a different autoplay window open, with different options (including 'Open with Windows Explorer)> I'd thought (clearly wrongly) the action was media dependent, not as to what was on the disc.

So how do I get the Windows Explorer option for a disc with .VOB files on it?

I don't use autoplay - I think it's a security issue.

So I always get an explorer regardless of the media or the content.

If you like the autoplay feature, you'll have to fine tune it for all devices and media in Control Panel / Autoplay

I configured autoplay on my machine to Take no action, save, and then unticked Use autoplay (at the top of the dialog box), save

Your post isn't clear. Are you changing the autoplay options in Control Panel or when the dialog pops up?

I gave you my settings which I thought answered your "How do I get Windows Explorer..."
- did you click on the view more autoplay options in Control Panel

I think I understand what you want.

You want the Open Folder... using Explorer to appear in every autoplay dialog as an available option when any media is inserted.

Is that correct?
This might take a registry modification, but I don't know how to direct you. Hang tight, someone might already have something you can use.

Your settings turn off the autoplay options, you said. I want the autoplay window to pop up when I insert media, as it does now, but I want the option 'Open with Windows Explorer' to be one of the options. You can see from my screenshots that I have the option set to 'Ask me every time', as I don't always want to do the same thing, but the option to open the folder in Explorer does not show in the pop-up window,as you can see from the screenshots.

In other words, I want the pop-up box to ask me what I want to do, but for Open in Explorer to be there as a choice. I haven't changed anything as yet...

This is the tool you need, if this does not do want you want it is NOT possible. It is a stand alone tool. No install needed. I have used it to tweak numerous Windows 7 open and edit settings to different viewers and editing photo programs etc. Also set up DVD shrink to open DVD's automatically. Run as ADMIN of course.

I see I have used that programme before (I always keep a backup of all the zip/rar setup files I download) but I don't currently have it installed. I'll get the latest version, try it out and report back.

Sadly, it doesn't work. It does allow me to remove some autoplay options I don't want, but although the option to open the folder in Windows Explorer is there in the Default Programs Editor window, it does not show up in the autoplay window when I insert a disc. Oh well....
