been using xp pro x64 without a hitch for a long while. Using a skinner you can make it look like anything, vista, seven or whatever.
It way fast, still have it on disk.

Same here (re W7 being really great & far better than XP). XP was great in its day, but it's like a Model T Ford compared to a 2009 model car. Well that's a slight exaggeration, but W7 is very far advanced beyond XP without question and it's not just the GUI, although that is a part of it.

So many things, I wouldn't know where to start, except to say try reading the W7 Engineering Blog to get some idea.

Yeah,i'm using it for a long while too with no big problems and good part at it is it's very cutomizable!

I can't lie,Win7 looks good but on a old pc like mine i don't think will work too well as xp!

There's just no contest at all in speed on my hardware. With 7 i can still see the redraw of the windows flashing by as the background wallpaper updates.
With xp it's just: plop it's there.

7 idling at avg 10% with all utils running.
xp barely touches 3%

BSOD's, weird crashes, thats was all but gone in xp. With 7 a whole new range of problems has been introduced.

Still i switched to 7 because there are a few minor touches which mean at lot to me which have been resolved.

But i see the need to upgrade my memory, it only gets 8600 kb/s

Why would you want to stick with an 8 year old OS? I dont understand it. You miss out on all the technological advances that have happened over that time.

Asking that question on this forum is probably going to get you a biased answer, just like asking whether XP is better than OSX on a Mac based forum.

That's true ,maybe when i'll buy a new pc i will use Win7,on this will work slower than xp!

Stick with it because it's still a very good OS,especial on old PCs!

poll asked which would you choose? I understood that to mean which of the 2 has the most overall merits.

Obviously i'm running 7 but for minor details only. My biggest gripe has always been that i listen to music, want to switch to headphones or back and i'd have to restart the app.

Call it what you want for me it's a big enough issue.

Still i always buy a car which predates computer control, with a carb as i fully experienced the cardinal rule: the more there is to go wrong, the more will go wrong.

silly question - the great majority of us on this forum have chosen 7 - the clue is in the domain name.

i'm also surprised 7 isn't performing well on your hardware - driver issues?

a lot of us have spent many years with xp, and it's always difficult stepping outside of your comfort zone, having to learn how to solve new problems and using new methods and techniques.

but that's what i like doing, learning new stuff - it's one of the things that separates us from the animals (and indeed, the duller majority of humanity).

back in the day, my sinclair spectrum fulfilled all my computing needs, but time and tide move on, and it's up to us to move with them, unless you like being left behind tinkering with antiquated technology.

I didn't tested it yet,i've watched how it works on another machine!

And what's the problem in asking that on this forum?Who from this forum didn't used XP?

i wised up over the years, i only buy big name hardware. ::geek:

xp x64 just runs smoother and faster. Evidently it being much less complicated.
Benchmarks are crap. The results vary inversely between benchmarks, they are never the same running several time, and they don't tell you what you want to know.

How does the computer feel like in everyday real life usage.

But once more, i run 7 otherwise i'd be waisting my time here.

Having converted to 7 for the past 3 months or so has reinvigorated my notebook. XP was just too old and tired for me. I'm a firm believer of "Out with the old and in with the new!" Having to use XP at work is a pain for me. The future is now! XP was good in it's day but it's time to look ahead. Onward and upward!
