Hi,

I'm brand-new here, so please be gentle when replying. I know plenty about Windows and computers in general, so you can be fairly technical in your reponses.

My Gateway LX-6810 has started having problems which apparently I'm seeing could be related to the SFC/scannow command not being able to repair files??

My issues include, but are not limited to...

(a) Explorer will crash quite frequently, but sometimes a reboot lets it keep working for a while without issues
(b) Plex Media Server frequently refuses to play any media, but is still running and showing the libraries
(c) Folders in Explorer will randomly choose to take forever to load (or never load)
(d) disk management in Windows will not load
etc...

I am a little lost as to what I should be trying to fix this type of seemingly random problems, or what information I need to gather to request any help on it?

If anyone can help, or ask me questions, or tell me what information to provide (and where to pull it from), I'd be VERY appreciative. I'm working a new job, so I may not respond quickly, but that doesn't mean the problems are solved, unless I actually post and say so...

Please help???

Thank you so much!

Can you upload the log that was produced by sfc?

Run this in an elevated command prompt

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

Then attach the text file to your next post

Hi,

(d) disk management in Windows will not load
etc...

I am a little lost as to what I should be trying to fix this type of seemingly random problems, or what information I need to gather to request any help on it?
Some thoughts:
- Have you looked at the windows event log to see whether it records any useful information?

- Obvious: Is your system current with Windows patches and Antivirus (with latest definitions?)
If not: Consider installing Malwarebytes to check for an possibly fix infection related problems.

- Less obvious: Any pattern to the crashes? software running at the time?
Uptime of the system? - Earlier version of Windows NT could run for months without a reboot.
Now it seems that frequent reboots are needed to flush memory corruption.

- Running Processes - can they be pruned? How many processes are active? SysInternals suite specifically 'AutoRuns' is a great tool for helping prune overzealous running processes. Also Ccleaner by Piriform (and maybe defraggler)

Good Luck

Attached is the file requested.

I have Avast installed, and up to date, but it seems to hang at 0% on the nightly scan I run, and on the full scan I run weekly. The logs will state nothing was found, but I never actually see the scan progressing.

I normally run Malwarebytes (but it won't run now), Ccleaner (hangs partway through the registry cleaning).

I'm willing to do whatever logs, scans, processes, etc, that I can get instructed on how/what to do...this problem is becoming SUPER annoying.
