sfc /scannow some files could not be fixed

Hi All

I am a new member to this forum and i am very pleased to have found it.Now i know this subject has been discussed some 5/6 years ago on this forum but my problems just started in the past 3/4 weeks.I hope i am posting in the right place and if not please re-direct me.my problem is sometimes my computer will not shut down normally and i have to force close it which is why (i think) i have corrupted files.as you probably gathered by now i did the sfc/scannow after reading up on your forum.i also ran the findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" which i want to send to you but i have no clue how to get it on to my desktop.you will have gathered by now i am a novice and not tech savvy.can you please come to my rescue.i would really appreciate your help.thank you all in advance.

Welcome to the forum,

You could just go to the logs folder C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and copy that file (CBS.log) to the desktop or some other convenient location.



If it is larger than 1MB you can zip it up and attach it using these instructions,

sorry to be a nuisance. i located CBS.Log file but i am having trouble.the file has a hyperlink and when i right-click on it my options include :Open in new tab,Open in new window,Copy link address,save link as.my problem is it wont execute any of the commands.also if i left-click on it i get Access is Denied.is that normal or are things worse than i expected.really hope you can help.many thanks in advance

That shouldn't be a hyperlink, it's just a text file. Can you hit the print screen button and save it in paint, then upload the screenshot here,

I see why now, you are putting this C:\Windows\Logs\CBS in your browser (Chrome)

You should be looking in windows explorer, that file icon right next to it on the taskbar.

You got it right on the last two, the other one was just a picture, I got rid of that for you.

I'll ask for someone to have a look, those logs are not my forte. It may be a bit, just hang in there.

with regard to the problem(s) mentioned in this thread it was suggested to me i should try a Start-up Repair while i was posting in another thread regarding wmm6.my system came with pre-installed win7 and i was attempting to create a System Repair disc but then i got this message:




can somebody please tell me what is going on.

I don't see how a startup repair is going to fix corrupt files, that's for problems starting or booting Windows which you don't have.

I think they meant a repair install,

forgot to mention in that post i do not have either an installation disc or an ISO.my system came with win7 pre-installed.what i do have is a" system recovery media" disc,for what that's worth.

OK, well that media can't be used for a repair install, before you start anything do you have a sticker like this on your computer?



And can you read the product key? XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

You will need that to continue.

yes i do have that sticker and yes i do have the product key, both of which are pasted on the back of my laptop.thanks again.

Great! That's a big step forward.

Write that down for future use before it wears off, you can take a picture of it too, pictures can be zoomed in on to make sure you have the right character.
