Sharing a single MB SATA Connector between two Hard Drives?

Other than an add in PCI Card, is there any adapter that allows this?

Sort of like the old Master / Slave IDE Cables?

Both of my Motherboards SATA Connectors are in use.
One for the Hard Drive and one for the DVD Drive.
There are no PCI expansion Slots.

I was hoping for some solution that would allow me to Daisy Chain or Connect two SATA Disk Drives off of one Motherboard SATA Connector.
This would allow me to have an additional Hard Drive.

My Dell XPS 17 laptop has a jack Plug for headphones/speakers Etc, An SD card reader as Bespoke connectors and Four full function USB-C sockets /ports for everything else

My desktop is currently offline waiting for me to find time to rebuild it so I am running the laptop as a desktop This involves a number of external adaptors daisy-chained into others to run several external drives, up to two external 4K monitors, Ethernet network and is running well, OK this is not a cheap laptop but it shows that the technology is keeping up with current user needs

I dont know a way to split a sata port to two disks.

are you sure there are only 2 sata ports ?

otherwise a pcie adapter or an adapter from m2 a/e wifi port

Found an Example that is somewhat like what I'm searching for:

Dual+docking+station+with+cloning

It is a Docking Station with two External Mounts for Internal Disk Drives.

Somehow it can differentiate between the two Disk Drive, allowing the O/S to assign them different Drive Letters, on ONE USB Cable.

I does what I want HOWEVER, I'm looking for a Cable WITHOUT all the Hardware!

I need just an intelligent Cable, one end attaching to the MB and two Sata Connectors at the other end.

This Device, the Drive Duplicator, does what I want but it has ALL the mounting Hardware I do not need.

I will use a 2.5 inch mounting device with two SATA Hard Drives mounted in it and just attach the Cable to them.

If anyone knows of such a Cable, please let me know!

All modern Drives have a unique device ID and although the basic windows software could not specifically decode the ID on the drive to provide all the data encoded there It knows enough to know that there are multiple drives in a system and allocate them different Drive letters inside Windows so you would simply select the drive you want to save to as with any other drive in a multi Drive system

Because the SATA standard was NOT designed for more than one drive per port. There is no workaround that I know of.

Other possible solutions:

• Use an external USB/SATA hard drive
• Replace your hard drive with a larger capacity one
• Connect a hard drive where the DVD is connected now. Then use an external DVD drive.

according to your screenshot it is one of these three



I would assume the difference is the firmware msdm table on the latter two. And that the first one ( non windows 8) has a slic table.

758190-001 is available online in several places and they all match the picture I posted with 3 sata ports.

same 3 sata ports on this one as well

Probably one of them is attached to the dvdrom drive.

If you have a desktop, how many SATA connections are available on your power supply? Perhaps you can add an additional connector cable.

I'm close to having some direction.
I began taking the AIO apart however it's a daunting task.
I got far enough to see a third unused SATA Adapter "under" an almost inaccessible are of the AIO.
I'm trying to discover how to remove the parts that are in the way.
I've taken several photos to help explain my dilemma.
I need to transfer them to the PC from my phone.

True but it has a place in my life!

In 1967 I was able to purchase my first car, a 1967 Olds 442, directly from the factory.

It was my pride and joy for about 18 months.

Then Camille, my bride of 59 years and 7 months told me she was expecting again.

The 442 was a down payment on a 1969 Olds Vista Cruiser Station wagon.

I guess I'm reliving my 442 dreams through this HP AIO.

I'll start working on the photos now that I've had a good nights sleep.

Your best solution may be to replace your hard disk with one of larger capacity.

Thank GOD I was able to remove the Lower Plastic Cover, exposing the Metal Plate that exposed the SATA Connectors.
As it turned out, there were two Blue and one White Connectors on the Mother Board.
One Blue and one White were in use, probably for the DVD and Hard Drive.
I do not know if there is some type of "difference" based upon the Color, might You?

I need to purchase a USB C to USB C cable to connect my Camera where I have the pictures of what I found.
I'll have it later today.

WOW! Getting the Plastic off without breaking it was scarry.

I'll try and make any and all Upgrades I can before replacing it even if it's just installing a Cable.

A big thank you to Mr. Ed for his suggestion regarding adding a larger drive.
My objective was to have two independent internal hard drives.
One for the O/S, etc., the second for Picasa and it's Photo Gallery.

Again, just personal preference.

Now it "appears" that I'll be able to do just that by installing two 2.5" drives vs. one 3.5" using a disk caddy I have located.
It fits / installs in place of a single 3.5" drive.

I do not understand what might be the densest MSata Card / Stick that will fit in this PC's Motherboard?
It appears that only a 2220 will fit, is that correct?
I'd like to find a 4TB Card / Stick that will.

I searched for an HP SATA cable to attach the second hard drive.
They ranged from about $50 to $250.
I'll buy one at Wal-Wart.

any sata data cable should do, they are cheap as chips, a couple of bucks. A right angle connector on one end might be easier.

msata is not used much nowadays. You might still find a few 2tb for sale
