Hello:

My wife and I both have Windows 7 Ultimate, and while I was able to map one of here drives on my computer earlier, after she got a 64-bit-enabled computer, I cannot.

Well. I got as far as to see her User folders, but not here C: and D: drives (I really only want her D: (data) drive).

I have done what I believe I need to do, but when I go to Netword and Sharing Center > See full map, I get

My-PC Gateway Internet

and then,

"The following discovered device(s) can not be placed on the map. Click here to see all other devices."

Printer X My wife-PC My wife-PC: Wife

(one wife is User, and the other wife is MS Media Player

Any help to resolve this would be most appreciated.

I also appreciate to be able to say that in a long life, I do not think I have seen anything so badly designed and explained as the MS network. Ahhhhhh!

Regards,

Hans L

1. Do you both have usernames and password on the computers?
If not then you won't be able to connect as i believe it's a security setting that stops people connecting without authenticating.

2. You may need to share the D: drive and give it a share name such as 'data', this way you can map or unc to it as \\ipaddress\data or \\hostname\data

3. Authentication, in order to connect to the other computer you would need to authenticate against that computer so you would either need to:

a. Have the same username / password on both/all computers, this way when you connect you are connecting with a username/password that is recognised on the others computers local SAM

b. If you have different usernames/password on the computers then connect via UNC (such as \\ipaddress\data) and after a short while you should get a username / password prompt

That is a lot to take in maybe and once you have followed that information there maybe more information you can provide us that could elaborate further on the issue and help resolve it if the above doesn't help.

Jamie
