Hello all

I've been reading this useful forum for a couple of hours now, and I've read and tried everything but nothing seems to work.

I have managed to fix this problem in the past by simply running the "Setup a home or small office network" on xp and it would work on 7, but now it won't, it is an unrecognized network. I've tried everything from adding 192.168.0.1. to xp and ...0.2 to 7, and making it obtain it automatically but nothing happens. It's getting pretty frustrating now.

Like I said, I'm connected to the internet on the xp via broadband wireless, and the xp is connected to 7 via hub (ethernet cable)

I would really appreciate it if someone would give me a step-by-step instruction.

Thank you very much

Ahh you have to make this hard.. you sure you don't have a router just lying around. *lol*

One Your Windows XP Machine:

First thing is First, you will need to do CMD and IP config /all to get your dns server numbers to put on the windows 7 machine. You can find this number by doing it on your windows xp machine.

Step 1: Right Click on the NIC card that has the internet connection, go to properties and you want to use the ICS Internet Connection Sharing...

Step 2: Select the 2nd NIC card that will be plugged into the hub.
If you check the IP settings, it should have given it a 192.168.0.1 IP address. That is normal

Step 3: On your Windows 7 machine, you will choose the NIC being connected to the hub and want to enable static IP address

IP settings will go as follow:

IP: 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

DNS: the same dns numbers you get from your xp box

once this is done, just hit okay, than okay again
the Network Location on Windows 7 should popup
select HOME

should be done.
