Hi all,
I don't like the shortcut with arrow, hence I change the registry values:
Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons
Value: 29
Type: REG_SZ
Data: C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll,-50

When I start my computer, the shortcuts become black squares. I can delete icon cache ("%LocalAppData%\IconCache.db") and restart Explorer to solve this problem. But after I reboot the machine, this problem occurs again and again.

Before the computer is normal, I find a command and run it, and then this problem happened. The command is C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /oobe.

This problem terribly annoys me, how can I solve this problem permanently?

Thank you all in advance.

Try using Option 3, Step 3, then Step 1 here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3606-shortcut-arrow-change-remove-restore.html#post33185

Why did you run sysprep? that is generally used to move the OS drive to new hardware. Is you install of w7 validated and Genuine now?

I just wondered what would happen after I ran that command...:sarc:
Now the system works well with option 3.;)

But I still wonder, why the shortcuts show as black squares? I used to think it's about the shell32.dll file, and replaced it with a same version one, but it wasn't fixed.

I suspect something went wrong with sysprep, it's a very powerful tool. I don't think simply replacing a .dll file works, it has to be done in a specific way, which I'm now familiar with.

If you have a problem ask in Seven Forums or http://www.pchelpforum.com/ first.
