Shortcut target question

If I remember correctly it's possible to make a shortcut to a file work on any computer, or in any location on my computer, by changing something in the shortcut target field, so it doesn't specifically target the whole address. Only I don't remember how it works...

I want it to work like this:
Main folder:
Contains shortcut to file in secondary folder.
Contains secondary folder with file that needs to be targeted by the shortcut.

Hello Milennin,

A shortcut is just a link to open what you have in the Target field. If you change the Target, you should also make sure that the Start in field is empty.

For other computers, you could use a variable in the target instead so that say it wouldn't matter what the drive letter or user name is. For example:

Use %UserProfile% instead of "C:\Users\(user-name)".

Use %windir% instead of C:\Windows.

However, on your computer, it would be easier to just create a new shortcut of the file instead, then pin or move the shortcut to where you like to use it at.
