Shortcuts to Network Shared Folders disappear once in a while

My desktop shortcuts to network shared folders disappear once in a while.

I made a clean install of Windows 7 64 Bits. All the local shortcuts are fine.

I have no clue why they disappear. It has been a couple of times now.

Anybody has the same issue?

In order to create a proper network shortcut with Windows 7 you need to do it a certain way for the shortcut to work properly. It's easy once you know how. Just follow the link below.

Wow, do we really need to do it the way you mention to make it work properly?

Yes they need to made that way in order to be mapped correctly.

Well, I do not know if we understand each other properly. I tried your solution and it the shortcut opens the Network Folder. That is not what I really want.

There is folder, on the work network, that is shared and accessible by everybody. The share link looks like this:

\\MACHINE_NAME\Data1\Costing\Projects\2008 Contract

Now, I created a shortcut on my desktop that points there. In fact, I have 5 or 6 shortcuts like this and each of them points to a different shared network folder.

So the problems is that, they all disappear once in a while. I do not have a recipe to reproduce that yet. Do you know what I mean?

For a mapped network drive the process is a little different, you said network folder last time so that through me off a bit, maybe this one will help.
