Should I move "Documents" or "My Documents" folder to D partition?

G'day Folks,

1)
Should I move "Documents" or "My Documents" folder to D partition? When I click on start --> documents it opens "Documents" folder which has apps-data ...etc folders.I like to be able to click on "documents" to access my data from D,is this possible?

2)
just bought a new Asus laptop and Windows-recover turned off on C: .

i)Is it because Asus has protected partiton (c set up?
ii)should I enable window's recovery on protected partition and set restore point?

If you wanted to move your C:\Users\(user-name)\My Documents folder to another location, then OPTION TWO in the tutorial below can help show you how to easily do so.

The Start Menu opens to the library location instead of the one in your C:\Users\(user-name) folder. If you would like to change that, then the tutorial below can help show you how to.

Shawn thanks for your quick reply mate so what you are suggesting is that leave "Document" folder on C: and move "My Document" folder to D then point start menu to C: folders rather than libraries...Correct me if I got it wrong?

Can you please address you 2nd question about Windows recovery being turned off Asus laptop on protected partition.

Personally, I would recommend to leave both on C: if you have the space to avoid any pottential issues, and just change which one the Start menu opens to if you prefer the user folder location over the library location.

Just to clarify, please post a screenshot of which one you wanted to move showing it's full path in Windows Explorer.

Thanks mate I'll leave "Documents" and "Mydocuments" on C as you suggested to save any potential issues and will move my music and photo's to D partition.

Hello online and welcome to Seven Forums. Personally I leave all the standard folders. Documents, Music etc and use libraries to collect together locations on different drives.

You're welcome Online.

Kado is correct though. It would be much easier and safer to include folders from other drives into a library (ex: Music) instead. This way you will be able to easily access the files from any included folders, but still have the files actually on the other drive still.

A library acts as a central access point to view all included folders without having anything actually saved in the library, but at the included folder locations instead.
