I have a Toshiba Satellite and a Linksys Cisco G router. My provider is supplying 5 mbs on the package I have. My wife is using her IPad the same time as I am using the laptop. Sometimes the kids are in the house and using smartphones. Does it make sense to upgrade my router to an "N" I have attached a file showing my computer components.

Personally I would . All of your devices are Wireless N and the router is a Wireless G . The devices are all going at the speed of the router . Wireless N is backwards compatible with Wireless G.

Yes, and it would be a good idea to get a dual-band Wireless N router.......one that will work on 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies.

Many thanks for the quick reply. Are there different versions of the N router?

Wireless N is Wireless N. Some routers are just single band, 2.4GHz, which will work with anything that is wireless n capable. The 5GHz band is less common but still recognized by plenty of devices, and theoretically, it should provide a faster connection. Look for something like Wireless N 300+300......that means that EACH band, 2.4/5GHz, can have a theoretical max of 300Mbs.

Edit: This is an example of a Dual Band N600(300+300) wireless router. Asus RT-N56U
