Solved Should these services be disabled?

I was looking through Services (Local). For Startup Type most are listed as Automatic, Automatic (Delayed Start) or Manual. A few are listed as Disabled, mostly ones I have stopped perhaps through the Startup tab in Sys Config or some other way.

However I came across two related to .NET that were disabled. I don't think I did it. They are the older versions so maybe that is why. Should they be disabled? If not what should I change them to?

Also should the other versions of .NET (3.5 etc.) be listed?

Hello Bru,

Those two are disabled for me as well. I believe that they are just a older version, and the newer 4.0.... ones are now enabled instead. I'm not sure why the older ones would still be listed though.

I have a few other Sevices disabled that I don't think I did as well. Care to comment on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), Media Center Extender Service and Routing and Remote Access. Everything else I can account for. Thanks!

Yep, those are disabled by default for me as well.

When it comes to computers it's really good to be the same as everyone else. I've created problems by trying to solve problems that weren't really problems .

You bring up a good example as to why it isn't a good idea for people to disable services under the assumption it will speed up their computer. When services aren't being used, they don't take up resources anyway. Since you aren't running ICS (that's good, it barely works), that service would already be disabled. If you aren't connecting to any Media Center Extender devices, that would be disabled as well. Routing and Remote Access would be enabled to accept certain incoming connections, such as RDP. If you aren't specifically using that feature, the related service is disabled. You are good to go.
