I really miss my SSD, but I seriously doubt I'll ever use all the storage in this system... Next project is to index all the videos I've acquired over the last 10 years so I can use them for WMC.

Howdy!

If you still have the SSD why don't you use it strictly as a Windows 7 boot drive? ;)

my new toy! the compaq mini 311c

it's a big netbook (almost exactly A4 paper sized) with 11.6" screen with nvidia ion gpu @ 1366x768

only got 1 gig o' DDR3 at the moment, but will take two more.

standard 1.6 ghz atom cpu - but i've already had it up past 2 ghz, and am contemplating flashing a hacked bios i found to give more o/c options. i'm having some nostalgic fun playing half-life 2 to test for stabilty.

it's not a gaming machine by any means, but overclocked and for a quick bit of fun on the train, i've been playing hl2 (on low settings) quite smoothly - there are videos on youtube of people playing cod 4, bioshock, even a tweaked-down crysis! the touchpad (and the cpu) is more of a limiting factor than the framrate. the ion gfx chip does seem like overkill in a netbook - but i don't mind at all, and i still get great battery life!

dual booting at the moment. one's a super stripped-to-the-bone xp for occasional games - the other is a standard 7 home premium day-to-day desktop. xp seems to give 10-20% better gaming framerate than 7 on this machine - must be the drivers...

all in all, i'm falling in love with this little puppy, and i can't believe it was so cheap!

On a netbook....? Wow. That's one seriously impressive OC. I never actually thought of even trying to overclock one. Nicely done..

Heres mine now that it got cleaned and rebuilt,I took everything out gave it all a good clean.

Things changed:

  • Installed Cold Cathodes
  • Added 80mm fan at bottom
  • Added DVD-RW drive
  • Cable management
  • Hooked all fans to Fan controller (Exept Gpu fan)

80% done

Photo00891600x1200.jpg

Before it was horrible,I couldn't even shut the back panel because there was so many cables, i couldn't compact them in anymore but now ive done it,the door now shuts properly and no cables are in the way :P
Photo00921600x1200.jpg

I like my PSU but its cables are way too short ,I had to buy a Cpu power extension cable+ 24Pin cable extension too.

4890 has been taken apart,cleaned...re-applied thermal paste and new Thermal pads on the cards Memory and VRM.
I was going to buy a new GPU cooler,But they all have problems cooling the VRMs on the 4890s for some reason,There was one cooler i came across that was okay for the 4890 because you could buy a separete VRM cooler but it was £££ and i was not willing to spend that much.

Wow I would never think to pull apart a video card to clean it. Seems like a lot of work when a blast of air could get 80+ percent of the build up. It's amazing to me just how much stuff these systems suck into themselves and how a good blast of air and Q-tips can fix them up. I'm also fond of an old tooth brush for the pcb's. Anyone got any tips on their system cleaning. Nice system and good cable management!
Cheers, The Cheese

Same case as what I bought 2 weeks ago. I love it.
I know how you feel about the PSU cables being too short too, I cut mine and soldered some extensions... :zip:
It really does look better with black insides... so I think I'll have to get mine painted up too.
I think some pics are overdue... I'l get some up tonight.

Btw how is the H50 cooler?...I was going to get that before i dicided to get the Tuniq Tower 120.
Before I changed my mobo yesterday my H50 kept my CPU down to 27C steady and 38C whilst gaming. Since installing the Crosshair IV Formula I'm getting 33C and 41C

MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Palit- 9500GT 1024MB/128bit.
Its the bottom one in the list of pics on that site.
Its rather decent for the time being.
But because of the lack of fans on it, I decided to get that little purple/orange twinfans.

The H50 is lovely and quiet. Made a few people go ooh and aah already.
The whole reason I bought a new case was because the radiator is 120mm, and my old case could only hold 80mm fans.

By the way, where could I go to find the CPU temps?
