Just finished whats probably the last desktop upgrade for me. Poped in a Phenom II 965 and another 8 gigs. I'm not much into led jazz but the Centurion case looks kinda cool at night.

That 965be is one hell of a chip and 16 gigs will also help. I too like to blue led's !

As some of you know I had a string of defective mobos which I returned/replaced/ordered other with Amazon. The last one I sent back I had forgotten to take off the back plate for my water cooler block. I phoned Amazon about it but the guy I spoke to could not understand what I meant. He was going to send me a new CPU or another board. I told him I would call back and hung up, he called me right back and we got nowhere. After an interaction like that they send an email for a review of the call.

I was mad to say the least, I was stuck with a $92 cooler that was effectively a brick. Well through 5-6 email exchanges and getting to management I was offered my choice of a new cooler at no charge and overnight shipping. Here is the result, a Corsair H80i.

Some of the customer reps at amazon can be dense at times due to language barriers and not fully understanding the issues, but usually if you get a supervisor or someone who can think outside the script, things can get resolved.

I've been an Amazon customer for sometime now and though I've run into headaches at times with orders or exchanges, in the end I can't say the issue wasn't satisfactorily resolved; even to the point of getting a $200.00 credit once for a mishandled order... and I was partially at fault.

Point is, Amazon really does go out of it's way to satisfy their customers. Which is why I stay with them.

Good to hear you finally got a resolution Gary. Just a thought, you may be able to contact the company who made the cooler you need the backplate for and they may be able to hook you up with one for a few bucks. Would always be nice to have a spare water cooler on hand!

+1 I've dealt with Amazon quite a bit and have had occasions to talk with customer service. I can say I have had a few difficult times with communications with Customer Support, but I have never left there that I was not completely satisfied. I do believe they have the best customer service there is. More than I can say for Newegg. I get better service with Ebay than Newegg.

Yes, Amazon goes way above and beyond to make sure we are happy with their services and orders. I did ask to speak to a manager but the person told me the manager would say the same things he was. I let them know that in emails and did get some manager to respond, at least he said he was.

One thing I like is Amazon busts their butts to send out a new item if you are returning a defective one and they will pay shipping for both items. Newegg charges 15% fee and the buyer pays all shipping, or that has been my experience. Newegg won't start an order for replacement until the bad item is in their hands either.

All in all I am very happy with Amazon even if some of their prices are a bit more than elsewhere, service is important in the event one has a problem. Recently I found Amazon had a picture of the box for Samsung 840EVO drives that said 600GB, I reported it and they took it off. Odd thing is they don't make a 600GB 840EVO SSD.

This was hard for me to find, Amazon Customer Service: 1(888)280-3321. IT will likely be someone in the Philippines who answers.

While we are talikin about Amazon I'll tell a funny (to me anyway) story about them. I ordered a motherboard. As soon as it arrived, as is my custom, I got a magnifying glass and inspected the CPU pins. Sure enough, there were several bent pins. Having dealt with Newegg about bent pins, I was ready for a fight. I called customer support and began explaining the problem, being sure to tell him I had never put a CPU in the board. Half way through the story, the young customer service guy, said can I interrupt you for a minute? I said sure. He said, I'm embarassed because I have no idea what you are talking about except that it is defective. I don't know what a CPU pin is or what a CPU is. I almost laughed but was ready to explain. He said, would you be satisfied If I issued you an RMA, gave you a link to print out a pre paid shipping label so you can send it back within in 30 days? Then I will ship a brand new board to you today with free 2 day shipping and it will be sent out today. Would that make you happy. I told him it would make me extremely happy. And that was it. Try that at almost any other reatailer.

Yeah Amazon is extremely good about returns, again, why I stick with them; even with some of their prices being slightly higher.

When I did my new build I was seriously considering purchasing from Newegg due to taxes, but in the end, Amazon's customer service stuck out, and thus nearly all my parts came from them.

And to be clear, it's not like everything I get from Amazon, is suspect, or needs to go back, it's not, and I've rarely had to send many items back over my 13 year stint with them. In fact my returns over that entire period is probably less than 1 a year, and I shop with them a lot.

And yeah, I love the fact that they'll send you out your replacement before having to get the other item back. That in and of itself is worth doing business with them, especially when building computers.

I just wish more companies were like that, Corsair are pretty good in that respect if you have a credit card they'll advance RMA stuff for you or if you blag them hard enough they'll pay for shipping to the Netherlands. They're just getting very slow to respond nowadays, A year ago I got my H100 upgraded to a H100i but I had to send it to them first as I don't have any credit card's but it was quick and they covered the shipping. This year it took me a month of going back n forth with support tickets with a week between each reply but they shipped the item first and pay'd for return shipping. I doubt I'll buy another Corsair product though because they don't have any support in the UK but if that changes I would.

I also have dealt with Amazon customer service, with exactly the same results, every time. I have also received credit back on a card I used to pay for something. It was the same way, I print out the return prepaid label, call for free return pick-up, which is usually the next day, within a week I had the credit. No money was lost out of my pocket.

Newegg as you know is totally different. First the RMA, we must do, wait for them to approve it. Then we have to pay in advance for a shipping label. In my case since I don't have a car I call for a return pick-up and they charge me heavily for it. If, If I do get a credit, it is at their leisure. My last RMA was for the new video card which did not work out of the box.
I had to pre-pay to ship it to Calif. call for a pick-up, pre-paid also. It took over a week to get there, then had to wait for them to clear it in Calif. and then in New Jersey before they would finally send it out. Needless to say, I lost money out of my pocket on this deal.

I could go on a bit longer but it is late and I should be sleeping. Rant over !

All good stories, I like yours especially Steve. In my (little) mind I think Newegg has customers test products at the customers' expense. I mean why would they charge a 15% "restocking fee" if you're returning an inoperative board, card, or anything else? They resell it to some other poor jamoke and it starts over. It's a good scheme if you can get away with it, getting profit without selling.

I don't have any new internal stuff to show, but I do have some new externals...

Here's a pic of a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (with HDMI cable) for my MacBook Pro, a parallel port Ethernet server for my vintage Canon laser printer, and the bag that the previously mentioned Dual-Link DVI cable came in.

Now the long story about the Dual-Link cable: My Asus ProArt monitor has the dreaded "input bug" that causes intermittent screen jitter and blanking. I've read on the web about other people trying multiple monitors before finding one that doesn't have it. Most of them, however, only jitter when connected through the HDMI or DVI inputs. The DisplayPort and VGA inputs are usually OK (my monitor is this way).

My HP monitor has only DVI and DisplayPort inputs. Had to use my only DP cable for the HP and a single link DVI for the Asus. Of course, this led to much jittering and blanking on the Asus.

Getting a Dual-Link DVI cable allowed me to once again use the DP input on the Asus and stop the jitter.

Oh yeah, all these items were purchased from Amazon.
