Nice choice... I'm considering one the 1kW P2 for my next build, out of all the PSU's I've looked it this one seems to fit the best.

So one of my packages came in today.

Interesting looking controller you got there, I don't recognise it though.. What sort of quality are the sliders?

Girlfriends family is having a huge reunion and this will be stuffed with family images and handed out to all. Then there's a great digital frame which will be drawn for and the winner takes. Next project will be to catalog and title all the pictures and then copy them 50 times......sounds like a full weekend to me !

Now that sounds pretty awesome. But I'm curious, she's not dating you just for the technology perks, hmmm...? Hehe..


In other news, I finally made a plan to borrow a camera (since my phone's one is now fubar), so I have something to share too for a change.

Not much has changed my end apart from some new ram I got at a bargain price, well a bargain compared to the usual UK prices. 8Gb of Kingston HyperX Beast 2400MHz Cl 11 for £46, £54 shipped. It didn't really like running at 2400 though so am testing 2132MHz at the min with everything at stock, I just hope that when I re do my cpu oc it doesn't need to come down any more.

Check out the amount of dust I usually clean my rig monthly but just haven't had the energy so it's not been done since xmas and is absolutely mingin

I don't think I've ever let it get this bad but it's not as bad as it would have been if I'd not been cleaning the filters. I have my H100i set up to intake so there was a proper pile of dust sat on top of the rad fan's as it isn't filtered. Hopefully it won't stay like this for much longer though.

Cheers Ganj, no wonder I never saw it as I never check out Overclockers. I can't use the Beast RAM as it won't fit due to the size of my cooler so I have to go for Genesis. They do have 8GB for £55 which is the cheapest I've seen it for a while.

To be honest I'm in two minds whether to get the RAM (I really don't need 16GB at the moment) or another SSD to use solely for games. I'm thinking more of a 27" monitor though to be honest, my 24" is good but who couldn't use an extra 3" eh?

No prob's mate but a shame it's n o good to you. How much clearance do you have under your cooler? The Beast kit's are 46.41mm high.

Lmao! yeah an extra 2" is always good I wanted to get some bigger monitors this year but it's going to have to wait until next year now as I'm skint lol, my 23's will do me for a while. I only bought the ram because we're due for DDR4 soon so the DDR3 will have gone up in price even more by then. The kit of Vengence I just took out is retailing for near double what I paid for it last year so god knows what the prices will be like later in the year.

I'm not saying you will but there's a high chance of the 2x 8Gb kit's not playing nice together. It can be a ball ache at the best of times but if you're buying 2 kit's at different times then they're going to be from completely different batches. Saying that though you can always return them if they don't play nice together enit.

Theoretically yes but due to the amount of time between purchases they will be a different version number even though they're the same model number. The chips on the ram or anything can be different. It may not be the case but something to be aware of as it's a common thing.

So, it turns out my current PSU doesn't have enough plugs to run two GTX660Ti's. What a fail...

Any recommendations for a PSU that will handle my current rig with two 660Ti's? As I understand it, 650w is enough power, but I need 2x 6-pin and 2x 8-pin GPU connectors for the setup I want. Modular would be nice (since I now have the option), but it's not essential. Any suggestions?

For the record, a single 660Ti seems to handle all my current games without any issue at all, even with all the detail settings maxed out.. But I have two, so if not, why not...

Wow... That's not a bad choice, thanks Steve. After reading through Jonny Guru's review and seeing how it handles a serious load, I'm actually starting to reconsider the PSU choice for my next build too...

Considering SeaSonic's manufacturing history during their OEM stint, they most definitely have the required experience behind them. The X650 is fully modular too, which is a really nice bonus... I'll have to dig around locally to see if I can source one and what they go for.

Must admit, I am somewhat disappointed in myself for not checking up on my current PSU first, but I honestly thought it already had 2x 6-pin and 2x 8-pin connectors.

You can't beat yourself up too bad about that because sometimes you can't check. I'll tell you about my experience which you may want to check for your RIVE Black board. My board takes an 8 Pin and a 4 pin 12V EPS connection, which I'm sure yours will too. I was also thinking(and still am) about getting another 780 Classy. I bought a Corsair AX850 and checked the cables. It came with 4 pcie 6+2 cables and 2 8 pin (4+4) 12V EPS cables. Just what I needed so I bought it. What they didn't tell you was that you cannot connect all the cables at the same time. You can have the 2 EPS connections and 2 pcie or 1 8 pin EPS and 4 PCIE connected, but not both 12V 8 pin and 4 pcie at the same time. I really had a fight with Corsair over that one. So, there are some things you can't check, and I'm sure you will need all those cables in your 'Dream' build. So, Check extra on that one.

Hmmm... Very good point, I've never used a modular PSU before, so I wouldn't have thought of that. Will definitely do some more research before I get anything then. Thanks for the advice.

I'd get a whole new matched set of RAM. Even same model numbers bought at different time can cause RAM problems. Stick with the same brand, frequency, Timings, and CAS at least.
