I have three ICY DOCKs (one is a spare) that are similar to that one except they hold only up to four 2.5" drives up to 15mm thick (I was planning for future expansion when I got them). Those suckers are built like tanks (and weigh about the same). I also like that the eject levers and lever locks are metal instead of the usual flimsy plastic.

Graphics card length up to 347mm (13.6 in).

My main reasons for at least some 5 1/4 bays is for a DVD player and ssd hot swap.
I really don't want a bunch of things hanging out a bunch of usb ports.
I must admit that external hot swap in your post is a nice option. Looks good.

I have been checking out motherboards and cpu for the last 6 hours.

So far but not etched in stone is.
Asus X99 Delux || and i7 5930 or i7 5820.

Jack, that is the newer version of my Motherboard and the same CPU I have. I have no clue if it makes any difference at all, but that motherboard is made for the new CPUs, the 6900-68xx. They are the same socket and my board has a bios update to allow my board to run one. I just never have bought the new CPU. This one is enough for me. Mine has been a good board with no problems, FWIW.

Mike may be able to give you more info, but as far as I am aware, the only difference in the 5930 and the 5820 is the number of PCIe lanes. Unless you are planning on multiple graphics cards or a lot of add on PCIe cards, there is little difference.

I believe the 5820k oc's better :/

Mike, no big deal flashing the bios. It used to be dangerous, but not so much now. The older boards like we have need a bios update to run the newer chips. But, Jack is talking about doing it the other way. He is talking about a newer board and is looking at getting an older version CPU. I have no idea how that would work, they may be backward compatible, or maybe not. I don't know if they still sell the older versions. If you bought the first version X99 new, you most likely have an older CPU you have been running in it. I would think the newer boards and CPUs would deal with the DDR4 better than ours. Ours were the first ones to have DDR4, I think so it was something new. It has probably been refined by now. I have heard the 5820 will OC better than the 5930 though. Mine runs at 4.5 real well and it has done 4.7, but I just don't see the value in pushing it that hard. 6 cores and 12 threads at 4.5 is not too shabby and will do anything I need to do.

The newer CPUs also are supposed to have a better Turbo boost also.

Thanks guys. ATM that were the latest (fastest) parts that I have, so we go with that. The PC will be used for commerce monitoring, some VM and gaming too(FHD). There will no problems with that configuration, off course.

If I'm getting new conf for me, I'll go with Z170, or maybe new one Z270 MB with, i5 6500 cpu, and 1050Ti. ATM I'm fine with this pc desk build.

Jack, why such a large power supply? If using only one GPU card, 500W should probably be enough although I would prefer 750W myself.

I ran a quickie check on www.pcpartpicker.com to check for power requirements (just under 400w with only one HDD and not including the cooling pump) and it was kicking out a warning about aa possible parts incompatibility. You might want to check that out. It will also tell you just how much PSU you will really need.

I like lots of power supply and the price is right.
Later down the road I might water cool the video card.

I do no gaming. I like the color. It matches the motherboard.

PCPartPicker flags everything but it doesn't give reasons.
Maybe somebody on the forum can give me a clue.

Not sure about the (OC) on the end of the ram stuff but 2400 is clearly compatible.

www.pcpartpicker.com indicates that my video card is not comparable with the rest of the hardware.
It indicates that the video card and motherboard don't get along with each other.

I have no idea why that would be.

Also to use quad channel you will need 4 sticks not just 2
I like Steve went 4x4gb to get 16gb not 2x8gb so something else to think of seeing the x99 will use quad channel unlike z170 ddr4 boards
