Like i said earlier, i`ll use it mostly for Music Production, where i`m used to working with 60 - 120 streams/intruments/samples at a time. Though this is mostly a strain on my HDD`s, my throughput is just not cutting it (i`m now on 4GB).
Could you please explain this a bit more...what you mean by "my throughput is just not cutting it" and how that relates to the amount of RAM on your box? I'm not following you I'm afraid. It seems far more likely to me that your CPU is bound and is the stumbling block...not the amount of RAM on your box. How are you measuring your RAM usage, are you looking at things like hard page faults, etc?.
i`m looking at RAM as a way for througput of data coming from my HDD`s, and then being processed by the CPU.
in this cycle there are quite a few bottlenecks (speeds of CPU, RAM, HDD`s, MoBO etc.
my current RAM at 800Mhz is compared to my new RAM at 1866Mhz is a great improvement, the new CPU has a greater speed, and of course the SATAIII will hlp quite a bit.
this all adds to a much impoved throughput of data...
As for needing 12gig of RAM... I think 6 is plenty, but that's another huge debate
I'm in agreement with you there. I think extra RAM is being included to alleviate an issue most likely not related to RAM.
in the past, my needs becoming greater every time i discover a new way to be creative, my RAM was the bottleneck, and every time i upgraded it (from 1 tot 2, from 2 to 4) it solved the problem.
it could ofcourse be that in the next 5 years i wont need the 12 GB RAM, but when i do, i have it already in there, with no worries and no need to upgrade.
the big question is, why not??? why not go for the 12GB, instead of the 6 or 8 GB???
i wonder if there is a answer that is not in the eye of the beholder...
