well.....i wasted 100 dollars on 9800gt that i just bought 2 months ago,i could of got something way better likje a radeon dx 11 card, im sure it will be hard to run games soon on my 9800gt

No, computers do everything in binary...so you get 0, 1mb, 2mb, 4mb, 8mb, 16mb, 32mb, 64mb, 128mb, 256mb, 512mb, 1024mb, 2048mb, 4096mb, 8194mb, 16,384, 32,678 and so on.

Just a small tip; if you're planning to put that on your current AMD rig, AMD don't do tri-channel (not sure if or when they will), so for the sake of keeping dual channel, you'll need an even number of RAM sticks on your board (2 or 4).

my current RAM at 800Mhz is compared to my new RAM at 1866Mhz is a great improvement, the new CPU has a greater speed, and of course the SATAIII will hlp quite a bit.

You need to be aware that pparks is right when he says....

For example, you are getting an Intel Core i7-930 CPU that is designed to run on DDR3 800/1066 RAM. So, while you are going to install 1866RAM..you won't be able to approach those kind of speeds without overclocking your box.

Seeing that the price seems to be about the same for 12gig of either the 1866 Dominator GT or the 1600 Dominator, I'd say get the GT's, as they are more of a performance module.

Personally I would save myself some money by going with either of these these....

You'll get more performance due to the lower CAS speed. 7-7-7 vs 8-8-8.

If you have 12gig of 8-8-8 or 6gig of 7-7-7, I think the 7's win out. Even If the 12gig of 8's win, it's not something you're going to notice over the 6gig of 7's.

i would be better of then spending €400 on 12GB?

i picked my current SSD ( Crucial RealSSD C300 64 GB, S-ATA 600, 70 Mb's, 355 MB/s ) because of the SATAIII, but is this even nessecary?

would i need the speed provided by SATAIII, or is my rig not able to use the potential this SSD gives in terms of speed ?

i see the read speed of 355 MB/s, so i`m thinking that a SATAII gives 3Gb/s, that should be sufficient

i havent bought a ssd yet, and also havent bought the RAM yet (with the discussion on sevenforums in mind i waited) so your advise on RAM has been great so far, now only for my ssd...

i`m just glad the rest of my rig doesnt get to much comments, because i have it already here ready for construction...

I believe the performance difference would be so minimal that it wouldn't be worth the extra cost.

That's my opinion.

PS... The other thing you could do is take that extra $200 dollars you were going to spend on that 12gig of Dominator GT RAM and put it towards a bigger SSD drive. That's your transfer speeds there

ok, but what`s the advantage in speed with a bigger SSD?

my current choice of SSD has a read speed of 335 MB/s, and a write speed of 70MB/s.

an increase in read speed will set me back a extra €600,-, and i dont think i need a increase in write speed... i could be wrong ofcourse...

i still need an answer on my question concerning the speed of my SSD in relation to the options my MoBo is giving me (this being SATAIII)

Or you could get a second 64GB SSD and set up RAID0 (striping)... That should give you an awesome speed boost.

Nah...you should be fine for quite a while. I'm running an Nvidia 9800 GTX+ and it hasn't really struggled to run nearly every game at high or ultra settings at this point.

Well, the good news is that a good computer should come in at just about the middle of that range. $1500 gives you a solid box. Unless you really need something ultra fancy or specialized configuration, spending $3,000 is probably not a wise investment.

Actually, with this SSD, you would actually want SATA III controllers. Make sure that you understand that 3Gb/s is 3 gigaBITS per second and not bytes. Therefore, when you do the math and provide for some overhead, it comes out to about 300 megabytes per second max on the interface. Thus, if you have an SSD which can do over 300...you would need the higher capacity controller to take full advantage of it.

The speed boost itself though wouldn't really get utilized all that much for running an OS or loading a game. The primary benefit of the SSD is it's extremely low access times...and these don't really improve in a RAID configuration. Now, if the RAID array were to be used for storage...that RAID setup could make a huge difference...but I don't think many are able to afford a solid storage configuration with SSD drives.

As for needing 12gig of RAM... I think 6 is plenty, but that's another huge debate
