Show us your SSD performance 2

OK Wolfgang, So I have a brand new 2 tb Seagate I've installed and it's asking if I want to initialize as either a MBR or GPT disk. MBR is default highlighted and seems the logical choice? OK MBR selected and now ready to image my Samsung over to the Seagate.

Imaging to the HDD via Acronis 2010 will take some time, I'll hit the thread back when completed.

Acronis is a bit slow. Macrium is faster.

Actually I'm back, it was much quicker with the HDD then the process was with the Vertex...go figure? I'm going to wipe the Vertex drive completely now! Then ask for help with restoring the image to the Vertex.

Acronis Drive Cleanser is saying 10 hours to complete wiping....is this normal? Now 24 minutes later I'm at 7 hours so it'll just take what it takes !

I highly doubt it with an SSD. I don't know about the drive cleanser, but it sounds like it is basically doing a 'clean all' which I would never do to an SSD. You can run diskpart and simply use the clean command (low level format) or a secure erase with Parted Magic ( instructions). That takes less than a minute to do.

Link your new thread to the above posting. Then we can discuss it. I think what you are doing will not go over well with the SSD. You'll need a Secure Erase.

Common, I can almost guarantee that if any suggestions are given, my System Specs wouldn't be required. Why is everyone hung up on System Spec, most of the users on this board offer, so I'm one of the few that don't, why get yourself all tied in a knot or not help over that, it really doesn't make sense, even if you think it does. Offer a suggestion to help with a problem, and see where it leads. It sound like a car having a flat and you need the name of the tires to suggest a solution, does that make sense ?

You know, it would help if we knew what size tire you needed to replace it, and what style tires you had so the replacement would match the others.

Believe it or not, it does help with many issues, even if it doesn't make sense to you. A certain graphics card, motherboard or OEM may have a known issue that someone knows about and could fix easily.
But the choice is yours, as it is ours to help or not.
For those that don't want to cooperate, I'll find someone else that will, better use of my time.

Windows 8 WEI rating system goes to 9.9.

Where as W7 goes to 7.9 WEI.

So your scores look normal as best as I can tell.

Some SSDs need to be taken care of in different ways, depending on the controller and nand used.
If we knew the brand, we can find the controller type, we could possible help speed it up a bit.
SandForce controllers are different than Intel or JMicron, there are different things that can be done.
Also the age of the SSD, at a certain age, actually number of writes, it might need to be secure erased to re-gain performance.
Another is firmware update, depending on the SSD brand and model.

Let us know.

Just tested the ASRock XfastRAM RAM disk for fun:




BTW, when using a SSD, it's highly recommend to map windows "temp" and "tmp" environment variable to a RAM disk. Same for Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome temp folder. Make the system goes faster AND prevent degradation by avoiding multiple small writes to the SSD. Contrary to other RAM disk software I have tested, XfastRAM RAM disk configuration interface can do all this automatically!
