I know! I was originally having system stability issues and ruled out RAM and Power Supply. So when I changed the board I thought hell, why not update my SSD. Read some articles and found this drive to be very fast. Very happy with it! Plus its about 1000x sexier than my previous Corsair. Even though you cant really see it in the case. lol

First is my original score, second is my tweaked score by caching data to RAM and delaying write to SSD ( to be used only with battery backup as an unexpected power loss would result in lost data and possible corruption )

Download a program called "FancyCache". Its still in Beta, so keep that in mind. Download FancyCache for Disk 0.8.0 Beta Free - Virtual Cache for Disks - Softpedia

This program once installed definitely needs a system reboot to access your drive.

You can configure multiple options including how much memory the program uses in RAM, block size, ect.

Mainly need to play around with settings to see what works best. Obviously, the faster RAM you have the better the results. Also more RAM is clearly better as you can allocate more to the program without sacrificing programs loading in the background.

There is a section about Fancycache, and the settings they used (and which I replicated, which is the results you are seeing in the SS to the right) here : Speed Up SSD & Optimize For Performance with 9 Quality Tweaks

Very critical you have battery backup or are doing non essential things, because when you've set it to cache to RAM...Any power interruptions, unexpected reboots, power spikes, ect could very well ruin your day data wise.

This an interesting thought. I am looking to go even 1 step further and install the whole OS on a RAMdisk. One of my systems I am going to upgrade to 16GB of RAM and then I can fit my Windows 8 running in VMware which is a 12GB folder. That ought to be interesting too.

Gary, don't forget to report back on the experiment.

Wow, here's the initial result. The AS SSD only took about 7 seconds to run. Read access increased from .098 but Write dropped from .392.
Default settings other that setting the cache size to 3096MB

Here is my 512K Samsung 840 Pro after running a couple of weeks. Its scores are higher in all tests now except for Seq write which is 9.5% or 41.22 MB/s lower.

It says iaStorA-OK instead of msahci-OK. I'll check my AHCI setting in BIOS. Is this an Intel driver by chance?

EDIT: Is is still set in AHCI in BIOS.

iaStorA is an Intel driver and the correct one for an Intel CPU and is much petter performing than using msahci.

Thank you very much for the explanation. I feel good!!

I have an i5-2450M CPU. I installed an Intel driver that was recommended last week. I didn't realize that it was presented in the benchmark.

samsung has poor recovery from mass writes, if this is your primary drive and all your work load is on it, this is what happens not just to samsung but to all SSDs.

on the other hand heres 8k stripe SLC S301 Raid 0 in near optimal performance. see how the 512k went over 1200 MB/S LOL CDM went trippy cause of the small stripe size. 4k read went booming, could have gone to 60 if tested with 50 MB CDM file size instead of 100MB.

sequential and high QD drops though cause only 8k stripe size, if I default it back to 64/128k or even 256k it'll be over 1100 in both sequential read/write but 4k will drop down to ~45 MB/s

It is the low access time and the 4K numbers which are most important for running an OS on a SSD. 4K being the minimum page size written to.
