That appears to be the one I was looking at before. The Marvell controller shown there is for the LAN.

Yes, but in my last post I included a link to asus website for his board.

My P55 has the 2nd Gen.

Essenbe is 3rd Gen.

9128 is one of if not the newest Marvell.

Saw that after my "slow keyboard" finished.

The 9128 is a good deal. It supports TRIM too. Now we need to find out if the OP has his drive plugged into the right ports. His test indicated the MS driver being used.

carwiz: the link to the IRST drivers are the same as i first got and it was this one i tried out.

I have the Marvell 9128 on my motherboard P6X58D-E and my read speed peaks at about 417-419mb/s and my SSD is plugged into this port.

I have added my benchpic for reference. Would i benefit from running my Corsair Force GT 120Gb on the Intel SATA2 port using IRST driver?

I'm not carwiz, and I'm sure he will answer later. But, for your own piece of mind, try it and see how fast it runs and you will be able to see. But, I would like to point something out to you. On that test you just showed, 95% of the numbers do not make any difference to you when using it for an OS drive. As an OS drive the big thing is response times. ie. how long from the time you push the internet explorer shortcut until it actually opens. That is what counts. The rest of the numbers and the numbers all SSDs quote really mean nothing unless you are going to be transfering 10GB files around all day. An OS drive depends 95% of the time with 4kb reads and response times. So, just don't fall into the trap of comparing benchmarks.

Agree with the posts above, haven't read up on the new Marvell controller (my board has the old, slow, one) but it has been mentioned that it is much better.

Make sure you have the latest driver, and let us know how the performance is.

tips for revodrive

hi,
i got my revodrive to work...
not so easy...but ist is faaaaast!

Ya think?!

A Guy
Guy,architect,

I need few tips for revo,i may try also with revodrive.

hi panais,

first important thing: my system did not recognize the drive, until i set the other sata-drives (including my existing raid) to ide.
so i cancelled raid, set all other drives to ide and installed revodrive.
now it works perfect.
the next step would be to try to switch back the other drives to ahci instead of ide.
i didnt find the time until now, i will report back.
good luck!

Na, you won't get better than that on SATAII. Those are pretty good--Even for a Marvell. ;) Check to make sure Write Back Cache is enabled in Device Manager for the drive.

I think you're good to go.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Write Back Cache was the first thing i enabled ;-)
A final thought and question:

Can i run this SSD on the Marvell Controller using IRST if i reinstall the system and only install IRST? And if yes, would it be faster on the 4k files?

No. RST is for Intel chip sets. You could install it for the SATAII ports.

Ok, then i have gotten this mixed up, i thought i could use the IRST with the marvell chip, the SSD conected to the marvell port and gett better numbers on the test for 4 and 8kb using IRST instead of the marvell driver.

Good to get that cleared up :-D

I have added my benchpic for reference. Would i benefit from running my Corsair Force GT 120Gb on the Intel SATA2 port using IRST driver?

Agree with the posts above, haven't read up on the new Marvell controller (my board has the old, slow, one) but it has been mentioned that it is much better.

Make sure you have the latest driver, and let us know how the performance is.

With the numbers i now have and get i´m using the Marvell driver 1.2.0.1006 WHQL (Xp/Vista/7), i dont remember which firmware i have flashed to but it´s a new one, not the version that came with the mobo. I think its the version that came with the new BIOS 0701 for the mobo, but i´m not 100% sure. I could be firmware 2.1.0.1413.

Which firmware version is best for the marvell chip 9128?

A Guy
Guy,architect,

I need few tips for revo,i may try also with revodrive.

hi panais,

first important thing: my system did not recognize the drive, until i set the other sata-drives (including my existing raid) to ide.
so i cancelled raid, set all other drives to ide and installed revodrive.
now it works perfect.
the next step would be to try to switch back the other drives to ahci instead of ide.
i didnt find the time until now, i will report back.
good luck!

Thanks architect!

carwiz: the link to the IRST drivers are the same as i first got and it was this one i tried out.

Which firmware version is best for the marvell chip 9128?
Addition to my previous post: I have the Marvell 9128 controller.

Do a search with your marvell chipset 9128 and the newest firmware and your SSD and see if there are any serious issues.
There are always posts with issues, just read through a few to see if it's a wide spread problem or specific to certain hardware/people.

I've been meaning to do this but haven't gotten around to it, will start checking one of these days.

EDIT: Just had a look around, checked a couple of sites and they are still recommending to stay on the Intel SATA II ports.
This Marvell controller doesn't pass the trim command, and is not very stable according to some.
How to Ensure SATA III TRIM on X58A-UD3R, Intel 510 6GB/s SSD, Marvell 9128?
Two things, I'd advise you not use Marvell drivers on the 9128 controller, although the newer drivers are better performance-wise, they still remain less stable than using MSAHCI.

There is no TRIM passed through on the Marvell controller, with any driver, or any BIOS mode settings.

The Intel SATA 3Gb/s controller would be better for any 6Gb/s drive, simply because it is way better at random performance, the only thing the 6Gb/s port is better at is Sequential speeds which really don't have much of any effect on performance.
Should I use ICH10R or Marvell SATA/600 controller?
In fact, I can squeeze my Marvell 9128 to near 500MB/s reads versus my ICH10R's paltry 280MB/s reads and still see that the Intel's slightly reduced latency(and stronger small file performance) gives greater percieved advantage in typical OS duty regardless of nearly doubled read speeds. The ONLY reason I keep the V3 on my Marvell is because I have 8x HDD raid which can take advantage of that stronger read speed. If I just had single drive storage/small HDD raid?.. I would most definately be running it on the Intel becuase it's slightly better all around.
Guess I'll wait until I get a new motherboard for the new SSD.
The newer Marvell controllers are doing better, but the 9128 even with firmware/driver updates is lacking, according to my search.
/Edit.

This is one site I have used to get my Intel drivers, they have Marvell drivers also.
Station Drivers - Marvell
They are showing the same driver but, newer firmware.

I don't use my Marvell ports, my Intel SSDs are happy on the Intel SATA II ports.
My next SSD may need the 6GB/s Marvell ports, so I would like to know how the performance on the 9128 with new drivers is working.

Let me know if you decide to update the firmware and driver, and if you see any improvement.
